Has anybody been having promblems with U-Joints going out on 2003 and up cummins. On my third or fourth one now and only have 60,000 kms on this truck. personal truck one ton only pulls a holiday trailer on weekends. Is there better quality u-joints out there?

Not really hearing of this being a problem. Neighbor and I total over 200,000 miles on our '03's and '04's with no trouble.
Wondering if something else is out of balance or round that would cause yours to fail so often?

I lost the rear u-joint (next to the differential) at about 130,000 miles. No other problems to this point. Now over 158k.
eb290,
Are you still running the original injectors?

Hoot, Yep, original injectors, no problems with the engine at all
except for the injector pump failure at 149,000 miles. Getting close to
10,000 miles since then and no problems.

I'm guessing that eb290, with that many miles on his truck, has also
been doing almost entirely highway miles. I think the injector issues
stem from the short, around-town trips. You know, like the kind of
driving I normally do. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
I'll head to Wally World and pick up some of that diesel injector
cleaner I heard someone talking about. Worth a little preventative
maintenance.

Most of my miles are on the hiway, but 98% of them are dragging a
trailer going to and from oil well locations so the roads aren't always
real good. I agree that someone that drives 8 - 10,000 miles a year
will probably have more trouble in the long run than I will driving
100,000+ miles in a yr.
Hoot:
Couple of questions for you. On the lift pump issue, a friend that
works at the same place I do has an 04 Ram. The lift pump went out and
it shut him down. He could restart it, but it died several more times
then ran ok and he got home. When he had it cked, it was found to be
the lift pump. I didn't think the lift pump would affect the new pump
on these trucks. Any ideas. He was lucky, it happened at 97,000+ miles,
still under warranty with the $100 deduct. He got the truck last Dec.
He runs more miles than I do but he runs flatbed hotshot, doesn't pull
a trailer.
Another guy that works where I do just got a 4500 Chev with the Duramax
and Allison. He had a 450 Ford that couldn't make 300k. It was in the
shop all the time. My question is, he had less than 2000 miles on it
and it died on the road. I went and took his load and when it got to
the shop, they said it was a water sensor that shorted out. Do they put
kill switches on those trucks. I know the larger trucks have them but I
didn't know they had them on the smaller trucks. Also he had no warning
light or codes that he could find. Just picking your brain.
