Recently my truck has begun making a random chirping/sqeaking sound which seems to be under the cab someplace. It doesn't sound suspension related. Anyone have any thoughts? Thought I had read somewhere awhile back about loose torque converter nuts or something . Thanks

Mine has been doing this for a couple of years now. Does it seem to come from about your left knee? Try to see if it corresponds with the A/C compressor cycling.

my '02 does the exact same thing. it just started a month or 2 ago. it sounds like its coming from somewhere around the left side of the engine compartment. it's totally random, does it at idle as well. it sounds like a belt slipping, it only 'chirps' for a split second, but it sure is noticeable.

Its not the ticking from the engine itself is it?? Kinda almost sounds like a typewriter...Only happens on mine once in a while..

nope, this is totally different. its like a squeek, like a rubber shoe on a gym floor, only for a split second though.

Checked your belt tensioner pulley lately?

Thanks for the responses.I'll have the belt tensioner pulley checked, CB Rocket is right, it does sound like the sneaker on the gym floor. Did a search on the Diesel P**e and came up with loose torque converter bolts and the downpipe as possibilities.

To me it sounds as if it's coming from the location of the fuse box. Mine definately happens when the AC compressor kicks in. Could a relay make this kind of sound? Probably the belt chirping when rhe load hits it, funny though that the sound appears to enter the cab around your left knee. Yes my belt tensioner is bad, just need to get off my lazy butt, order one from Eric and change it.

It is the belt slipping when the A/C compressor kicks in and out. Put on a new Goodyear Gatorback belt and you will never hear it again.
