: hypertech w/o trans slip?

I am considering diff programmers and I have noticed that the hypertech doesnt have any sort of built in safety feature for trans slip. Is this at all a concern or does it not create enough power to slip the trans? How much can you safely tow with a hypertech on level 3? Thanks.

I've pulled about 9000 lbs all up and down the east coast, several times on level 3 with my LLY.

The thing about a tuner being able to detect trans slip is kinda shady in my opinion....Yeah, its detecting slip, AFTER the damage was already done...Only then does it back down the power....Too late if you ask me.

If you're towing any amount of weight, Hypertech or custom EFI tow tunes are excellent.

I'm with Unit453. I just towed a 10,000# 5er about 3600 miles Vancouver to San Diego and back with the HTech on 3. Absolutely NO problems. However, if you plan on towing this weight and go 80 mph, then you might limp the tranny. You'll definitely heat it up. I pretty much stayed at 65 or under all the way.

Hey partner, I have an 02 with the Hypertech and bought a 4500lbs travel trailer about 6 months ago. On two trips my trans LIMPED and I got scared. I called the best Allison trans guy in So. Cal he told me to power down on the Hypertech or remove it or I was going to loose the trans one day.. My Hypertech has settings for 50, 70 and 90 H.P. I knocked it down from 90 to 50 lost a little power but now use to it.. I have been on two trips pulling the trailer since and no problems.... thats my two cents.. good luck

I just got back from a weekend of camping. Towed my 39 foot (actual length) toy hauler 570 miles round trip through the mountains. Fully loaded (gear, water, and Yamaha Rhino) I come in at about 15.5k total trailer weight. My HyperPac is set on Level 3. I had absolutely zero issues during the trip. Engine temps ran 181F - 194F no matter what the grade. Tranny ran 141F - 150F during the whole trip. Tranny temp rose to 157F when I got into Anchorage city traffic (stop and go). EGTs ran 800F - 950F on flat driving and 950F - 1300F in the mountains. I saw 1306F one time for about 30 seconds on a very steep hill. Most of the time EGTs were 1000F - 1100F in the mountain passes. Driving speed was 60mph - 65mph. I did hit 70mph - 75mph a couple of times on a few multi-lane hwy sections. I found the trick to keeping EGTs in check was to lock out overdrive when going up any big inclines. Locking out overdrive at 60mph would drop EGTs 150 degrees every time. It was amazing to see EGTs drop to the 950F - 970F range while going up long hills once the overdrive was locked out. I never thought more strain on the truck would equal lower temps. During these times the tranny and motor temps stayed 150F and 194F respectively. I had plenty of power and never felt like the truck was straining to pull. I was nervous to see what the HyperPac would do with my trailer but I am sold. There is no "Hype" in the HyperPac! It is all PERFORMANCE!!!! I am a believer for life!!!

Do you have aftermarket exhaust or intake? If you will out a signature, it'll be easier for others to know what you have. Also, a dumb question, but what exactly happens when you "limp" the tranny?

The following is a search for tranny limp. Should be able to find the answer in these posts
