'99 Dodge/Cummins with auto trans.....no vibration when in neutral, but in "drive", and stopped, it vibrates, ....mirror is blurred, and the steering wheel vibrates, also.

Ideas???

Probably just the Cummins letting you know it's ready to roll.

Mr. Hoot,

So this is a normal thing for the Cummins? Kinda like the famous Cummins "chirp", at shtdown? I really appreciate you replying.

I'm not an experienced enough Cummins guy to answer the question. I own
an 04 common rail Cummins which I'm sure has different drivability
characteristics than your '99.

The Cummins is known for it's crude demeanor. When you put it in
drive the inherent engine vibes can get transmitted to the rest of the
truck as it lugs slightly.

Mine certainly has a slightly rougher feel at certain rpm ranges
compared to the Dmax I had. This ain't no light duty machine that's for
sure.Edited by: hoot

Haven't dealt with the earlier ones, but my '04.5 will have a noticable
vibration at idle, certainly more than my 6.5 used to have. This motor
belongs in a heavy-duty application and bears more resemblance to a
semi than a passenger car diesel. Of course, I have no problems with
this seeing as that means it lasts roughly forever. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Also, there are a lot of cars out there that do the same thing. Every
Honda with an automatic that I've ridden in made before about '93 or so
being a perfect example. I would not be inclined to believe that there
is anything wrong with your truck because of the vibration.
