: LSSV (Military) Bumpers...
oddplanes 04-29-2007, 02:43 AM I am tired of the stock flimsy front bumper on my '03 GMC, and was wondering if anyone knew how to order the 2003-2005 style Military LSSV bumpers. I am told GM Austrailia has a killer aluminum "Kangaroo" bumper too, and I would love to get my hands on one of those, but the LSSV grille guard and bumper would really do me well for night driving over the Alcan and Alaska's critter filled roads.
Thanks in advance. :)
schulte 04-29-2007, 02:49 AM I'd be interested too; one'r thems in black line-x sure would kick ass...
oddplanes 04-29-2007, 03:37 AM Here's the parts book breakdown of the bumpers... My dealer told me a little while back that they were not available to non-military customers. I think the parts guys didn't want to deal with it. I shattered my lower valance by the fog lamp with a flying rock at 5 below, and some a##hole in the Fred Meyer parking lot dented my chrome front bumper by running into it.
Reineke 04-29-2007, 04:23 AM WARN makes a bumper that is pretty beefy, comes with a winch, comes at a price...
SouthernGrey 04-29-2007, 09:03 AM May be able to find one in a military salvage yard, they are grtting those out of the military for newer ones.
catch2otwo 04-29-2007, 12:00 PM i think youd have better luck just getting a warn or something of that style. the lssv one doesnt look any better then any of the aftermarket ones, and it will probably cost you an arm and a leg coming from GM
eng158 04-29-2007, 12:13 PM that would kick as#, having a military bumper. like a rock.
Jasondt2001 04-29-2007, 12:44 PM here's the warn one; it is pretty similar besides the middle.
http://www.warn.com/truck/mounting-systems/heavyduty_bumper.shtml
Jasondt2001 04-29-2007, 12:46 PM I've never heard of these guys, but, this bumper sure looks pretty rough. http://www.reunel.com/ChevyExtremeDutyFrontBumper/Chevy-1.html

oddplanes 04-29-2007, 01:44 PM I've seen the Warn bumper, and it is 2200.00 plus freight. The 2005 list price on the GM is well under that. I have seen a few other aftermarket bumpers, but nothing that I like as well as the GM Military bumpers. I have seen a couple of the LSSV trucks and those bumpers are SOLID. Besides I don't really want a winch or a bunch of extra lights.
I can build one, but having the time is the issue.
I don't think they are scrapping the LSSV's yet, just the earlier style CUCV trucks, so used is out of the question.
I was just hoping someone on here knew how to go about ordering one from GM.
DIESAHL 04-29-2007, 02:39 PM look into the buckstop bumpers. they make just a plain jane bumper with no extra lights and stuff. www.buckstop.biz

I notice you are in AK. quick question, why do yall allow the mattress ranch guy on the damn tv. that guy freaks me out! dude, he has at least one commercial EVERY break.

Before ya jump into a ruenel look real close at the pictures, They angled it up real tight on the sides, and the inner wheelwell is exposed on each side. You can actually see the washer bottle on the drivers side of my 06. The quality is top shelf, i got the stainless, and i love it (cost me an arm and a leg), but i will have to fab up something to cover the sides. I will post some pics soon.
oddplanes 04-29-2007, 07:44 PM the mattress ranch guy on the damn tv.
OT:
Yup, Ted Sadtler has been in and out of the furniture buisiness for 35+ years here in AK. He made a deal with a couple local stations to air his ads in EVERY unsold time slot they have for a low fee. He maked retaded looking advertisements because they stick in your mind. I don't know him, but those who do say he is a very honest, hardworking, and generous guy. If he weren't such a good guy, someone would have burned him out over the five ads in a row every night I'd bet.
oddplanes 04-29-2007, 10:22 PM ONCE AGAIN...
Thank you for your suggestions, but I am not interested in a winch bumper. I am not interested in an aftermarket bumper. Period. I am just trying to find out how to order the bumper I want from GM. If I can't order the military bumper, then I am interested in the GM Austrailia "Kangaroo" bumper if anyone knows anything about that.
Thank you again.

Ute Ltd. has discontinued production of the BullBar bumpers. They did not make one for the GMC.
I am really looking for the FACTORY GM version of this. Thanks.
stocker 04-30-2007, 07:38 PM You're right, those bumpers look awesome. Does anyone know what the price range might be? Are they even available to the public?

Twister773 04-30-2007, 09:12 PM you should get that diagram and take it to a fab shop or draw up your own and it could be however you wanted it and made out of whatever as well.... just an idea

The California Highway Patrol has equiped all of there SUV's and trucks with front bumpers from this company. That doesn't mean that there the best but the CHP puts a lot of time and effort into finding the best equipment for there fleet of vehicles.
SoonerBoarder 05-05-2007, 01:27 PM Keep us informed on that military one!
It's not my body style, but man, I really like this bumper:
http://www.buckstop.biz/Images/chevygm/baja/KWJJ-013_l.jpg
I wouldn't even put all the lights. Maybe just two.
jeepj10jim 05-11-2007, 03:39 AM What is the correct part number? I have a buddy that works for local GM dealership and will have him check (works in Parts dept).
Thanks!
Rebel 05-11-2007, 07:58 AM From page 65 of the above .doc this looks like the number
1 Bar, Front Bumper TX018036
They also show a few shims and reinforcing plates that you might need too.
oddplanes 06-12-2007, 06:31 AM Been ordered for a while, and found out today that GM will not ship to non-military end user. Bumper is not DOT approved for Civillian trucks, so it requires VIN and DOD GSE Catalog number to confirm. Bummer.
Looks like a custom Buckstop...
Thanks to everyone for all the input.

I've ordered parts from the dealer using the VIN off a truck in the lot, the parts guy even made up a VIN once.

Fellow Calgarian here, I bought my Buckstop in Montana, had em install it as well. Saved me over 1100.00. Raven wanted 3k, supply only for a Buckstop classic.
thejdman04 06-13-2007, 09:34 PM thats a nice bupmer but a road armor woudl do the job too

Follow this link to Buckstop. The only way that I know of to navigate to it is through the site map. It might be the best fit for what you are looking for.

okfarm 06-14-2007, 11:04 PM I saved these pics off of Ebay awhile back. Now I wish I had payed more attention to the listing. It was for a military truck in Colorado at a dealership.

CUMMINSTROKEthisDURAMAX 06-15-2007, 11:33 AM Is that a military version DMAX stright from GM or is it an upfit? I remember GM was making them straight from the factory for a little over 30k, IIRC.
oddplanes 06-15-2007, 12:05 PM Factory GM. Info, parts books, etc can be found at http://www.gmfleet.com/government/products/GMDefense.jsp?navSec=products
Unfortunately, unless you have a GSA purchaser number, actually ordering the parts is "off limits"
I hear the Dmax is derated to 255 hp in the miltary trucks. Wonder what else they change...
Might try these guys... www.throttledownkustoms.com (http://www.throttledownkustoms.com)
I've seen where they've done them w/ built in winches, etc.

if you can buy the truck why cant you buy parts?
oddplanes 06-15-2007, 11:27 PM Apparently, according to GM, civillians arent supposed to be able to get their hands on these trucks as surplus until AT LEAST 2009. Wonder how that one made it out of the service?
Chevy350 06-17-2007, 02:17 AM I didnt read the whole thread. But did anyone mention Road Armour???
They have a bumper for the 2500HD's thats looks good, may or may not have a built in winch and also has fog lights and the whole shebang. It can be painted to match your vehicle too I beleive. They look pretty tough.
SilveradoLSSV 07-11-2007, 03:15 AM well i don't know if your still interested but if you look here

they are selling some. if you don't want the whole truck you can try calling them and see if they can get you some parts
oddplanes 07-27-2007, 01:49 AM GOT EM!!!
Had a surplus dealer who advertised LSSV parts send them from Georgia. He removed them from a truck he is making into a civillian model, so I got the front and rear with bolts, brackets, wiring, and goodies. Bought the frame mounted battery box from him as well for a third battery... Don't know why, but seemed like a bargain.
Very nice heavy duty stuff. Got to send them for blasting and powdercoat, then I'll post pics.

That and maybe a lawsuit............I dunno.
