Did the rear brakes on my buddies 03 Silverado 1/2 ton 4X4 the other day. The drivers side rotor came off like a s.o.b. But when we got it off after a lot of pounding on the rotor the screw on the inside of the rotor that hold the parking brake shoes in place was stripped out. It is a screw that hold a thin metal plate that holds the shoes against the backing plate and keeps them from wobbling around. I put the screw back in the best I could with lots of loktite. But apparently it came out and he says he is hearing a lot of squeeling out of it now.
My question is if I have trouble getting the rotor off again is there an easier way to get it off without having to beat it to death. I am just going to have to get a new screw from GM and hope it has enough threads left on the backing plate to hold it.
