: DSP5 Issues of my own...
SmokeShow 04-27-2007, 08:29 AM So I got the Trippin switch installed and am about 99.9% sure its in right (I triple checked everything before reassemble and helped a guy install one on another truck just the same as I did mine and his worked). 'the neens' wrote my DSP5 tune and I assume he knows what he's doing on that regard. So, after some shutdown and restart of EFI Live, it finally allows me to fully reflash the ECM. So I'm pumped now, right!?!? Wrong. Flip through the tunes with the switch and no change. The main tune (a race tune) is the only one working. It feels like its working correctly and not down on power. :D
Any thoughts? Did I do everything right? Is there any way to make sure my switch is working? Is there a way to make sure the tunes are all in the ECM?

RaceHemi 04-27-2007, 09:04 AM There are two PID's that reflect DSP5 settings
1) DSP5_TUNE_DMA
2) DSP5_VOLTS_DMA
Verify the tables in tunes #1-4, making sure they are not set to stock values. Same thing happened to me when I based my DSP5 off of a race tune. If they are stock, copy/paste known good values into one of the positions then verify again. If the tables have been correctly populated and switch functionality has been verified, I would build a fresh base DSP5 tune, populate one tune position and re-verify.
lakingslayer 04-27-2007, 09:18 AM When you check the DSP5_VOLTS_DMA and it reads 5V no matter what switch position you are in make sure the ground is in the correct spot on the connector. I made that mistake when I wired mine up the first time.
Biodiesel66 04-27-2007, 10:02 AM On the LB7 if the pins aren't pushed in all the way on the ECM connector that could cause a problem. No contact:mad:
SmokeShow 04-27-2007, 10:43 AM Thanks, I'll look at the tune this evening to be sure it is alright.
If it appears to be, I think I'll do a partial flash (like is supposed to be done to change one of the 4 other tunes) to be sure they are flashed in in their entirety.
If that doesn't work, I'll check that the pins are in fully and in the right spots.
If that still doesn't work, I guess I'm down to re-writting the complete DSP5 tune. Suppose it won't hurt me to learn how to do that anyways instead of depending on others for everything. ;)
Thanks for all the help.
The Neens 04-27-2007, 01:02 PM the neens' wrote my DSP5 tune and I assume he knows what he's doing on that regard.
Found your problem ;)
RaceHemi has a good suggestion, hopefully I didn't miss something simple...
SmokeShow 04-27-2007, 04:09 PM Chris, is anyone else running a DSP5 tune you wrote for them?

SmokeShow 04-29-2007, 06:29 PM So I tried logging the DSP PIDs and I get an error about DMP PIDs have to be in Dynamic or Stream Scan Mode and it tells me how to set that up. So I did and it still won't log. In fact, it won't log anything, just keep giving that error.
Thoughts? Whats the proper proceedure for logging PIDs?
RaceHemi 04-30-2007, 08:04 AM Can you post the list of PID's you want to log? Did you validate the PID's?
SmokeShow 04-30-2007, 08:21 AM I tried to log the two DSP5 PIDs you mentioned earlier and they gave the error. So I tried any PID and none of them worked.
What do you mean by "validate"??
MT Dmax Squid 04-30-2007, 08:58 AM I think what he is trying to say is that once you have selected the PID's that you want to record, you have to hit the validate button to make sure they all jive...
RaceHemi 04-30-2007, 12:02 PM PID's (Parameter Identifiers) must be validated before data can be captured or recorded by the scantool. I suggest beginning at page 76 of the users manual, while page 92 explains the different types of PID's.
I would begin by using the default Duramax PID's supplied by EFILive, adding appropriate PID's depending on the goals of that particular tuning session.
The default PID's supplied by EFILive are located here - \My Documents\EFILive\V7\PIDs
SmokeShow 05-06-2007, 09:41 PM ok, I finally got the logging going and the "DSP Tune" PID reports "non DSP" on three of my DSP5 tunes I have/had written. The "DSP Volts" PID reports "5.01" and doesn't change when I physically change the switch. Any thoughts? Seems like the tune isn't going in properly except for the main tune cause it still retains it and runs perfectly. Just doesn't recognize any of the other tunes. I did a partial flash after a full flash (like is to be done when changes are made to the four other tunes) and it still didn't recognize the other tunes. Clearly something defunked in the tune???
Then another guy who was also having trouble with DSP5 on his LB7 sent me a base DSP5 tune that finally worked on his and it did some weird things when I logged it. It ran fine but the voltage rapidly fluctated from like 1.xx up to 14.xx when logged. Most of the time the "DSP tune" displayd the "non dsp" message but sometimes it would rapidly roll through "#1", "#2", "#3", and "#4" and always end back up on "non dsp". Again, switch the switch did nothing.
I'm at a loss.

turbo lcc 05-06-2007, 10:37 PM Check the ECM pins. You don't have them all the way down if your DSP5 voltage pid is a constant 5volts. I had the same issue :D
SmokeShow 05-07-2007, 09:32 AM Yah! I get to fumble around in with that stinking plug again. :D
j/k Thanks for the hint. I'll check it out and report back. Wouldn't the "DSP Tune" PID still show that there is a DSP tune in though? I know, I know. One step at a time.

CADTECHTOM 05-07-2007, 12:19 PM the "tune pid" i belive goes off voltage ,so if your a 5 volts all the time it will show non-dsp and when it switches t 4v it will show dsp 1 - 3v dsp2 and so on.
It ran fine but the voltage rapidly fluctated from like 1.xx up to 14.xx when logged.
wow that's weired it thought there was only 5 volts at that pin.
it does sound like a bad connection. and those connectors do suck
muscletruck03 05-08-2007, 01:06 AM ya im having the same problems, on the first one it runs good and all the rest are the same slow tune, man i sure hope i dont have to do those pins again!
SmokeShow 05-08-2007, 08:38 AM ya im having the same problems, on the first one it runs good and all the rest are the same slow tune, man i sure hope i dont have to do those pins again!
My main tune is a race tune and it stays that way even if I switch the switch. It doesn't go to any kind of a lower tune. I'm gonna try to check my pins this evening.
turk walker 05-08-2007, 09:09 AM I don't know if you have already checked this
make sure A0141 is set at 0.30
A0142 4.00
A0143 3.00
A0144 2.00
A0145 1.00
SmokeShow 05-08-2007, 11:11 AM All of those are set accordingly EXCEPT I think the time to switch has been switched from 0.30 to like 0.08 Wonder if that is a big deal? I think its just an attempt to get the tunes to switch quicker??
C-ya
CADTECHTOM 05-08-2007, 01:01 PM This is what is says in efilive A suggested value for this parameter is 0.30, this will stop switch debounce causing 'glitches' when changing tunes, it will also prevent rapid switching of the tunes as you cycle from Position#1 to #4 etc.
maybe your switch setting is to low and it's causing a glitch. try setting it to .30
SmokeShow 05-21-2007, 12:14 PM Got a chance to dig into it yesterday afternoon and sure enough, the stinkin pins were not sticking out? :( I feel pretty sure that I double checked that before reassembly on the initial install so for my own sanity, I'm going to say that the pins were fine but got pushed out when I put the plug back on the ECM. :D
Anyways, all is well now. Switch and everything works like a champ. Thanks everyone for the help!!!
