Why not trade your truck in on a new one... I think with the incentives you will get a better deal on a newer HD... Good luck

I looked at them hard before we bought this GMC and didn't care for them because of turning radius, ride, the way they drove, and the drivers seat was uncomfortable. Build quality was lacking in my opinion too. Every one I looked at had paint flaws low on the body or in door jams etc. Ford was having problems with the 6.0 in early '04 but if you get one built after the first of the year, that should be less of a problem from what I have read. I would definitely check out the repair history (get a factory print out) and take it for a long drive to make sure you like it first. Also, if you decide on it, wait until Ford has their 100 hour sale on 0% financing which is supposed to be coming up soon. Edited by: srode

Who says you can't have both? You know you want your truck and your buddies will ridicule you when you show up at work in a B M W. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I talked to a guy who has been at the Chevy dealer for 25 + yrs and asked him when the Burb was going to have the Dmax. He told me probably when chevy changes the body style. Said that the burbs now did not have enough room to house the Allison in the "hump" tunnel I think is what he called it. I think that it is going to cost alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I believe JK heard from one of his sources that the DMAX would be in the sub for 06. I think he said it would have a 4L85 trans instead of the Allison, and the DMAX would be detuned. I read it on the other page...

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gifI'm glad there are a few people out there who trade their D/A's in, otherwise those of us who can't afford new would be SOL! The previous owner of ours traded for an Excursion also, but he did say that it was a real tough decision because the D/A was the best truck he's ever owned. I'm wondering what he thinks now?

Also with the F*rd Excursion and I looked seriously at one before my Dmax to replace my 8.1 Suburban, is the overall height, width and length of the thing. It was a tough fit in the garage (the 2500HD S/B fits). Wife loves the Dmax but she thought the Excursion was just way to big overall.

If you could get an older one with the 7.3 I would say go for it. My friend has one. It's nice.. big, plenty of power. A bit tough to drive though. Doesn't track very straight and it's just plain huge.

This whole thread echos the decision process I'm going through right now. My family is also growing . . .I've been waiting for the Diesel Suburban that's been due "next year" since 2001.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif The only thing I know for sure is it didn't come along in 2002,3,4 or 5. I've finally decided to offer my 2002 for sale (Shameless plug, $25,000) and buy a used Suburban or Yukon XL while I contiue to wait. I have driven the EX (a 2002 with a 7.3), as hoot says it didn't drive very well. Also the MPG the owner was claiming, about 15 MPG, isn't enough better than a gasser Suburban to make up the price difference in my mind.

On the other hand, the current incentives on 2004 Suburbans and Yukon XLs ($6,000 in rebates AND 0.0% financing for 72 months, thru 9/30!) is making it tempting to trade for a new one.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I just wish there was a new 2004 D-max Yukon XL (Fire Red, in my Dreams) to trade up to with those incentives.

How much space does your growing family need?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

A crew cab has space for 5 with a big trunk. If you need the trunk to be covered, just buy a damn camper shell! Hell of a lot cheaper than a new vehicle!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

If the wife needs more space, keep your truck and buy her a minivan!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

The Crew Cab has space for 5 (which I need) with a big trunk, I agree, but on a trip of more than a couple hours (and we do the round trip to the east coast annually) it doesn't have space for 5 if two are in car seats. . .at least not without serious complaining from the back seat.

Mrs. Kid already HAS a minivan . . .a Honda Odyssey (which'll do 125 MPH incidentlyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif), but she's had 3 operations on her back and she finds the seats in the Honda are torture after 4-5 hourshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Down.gif, while the seats in the '02 are comfy all the way to Boston.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif Suburaban has the same seats (another stike against the Excursion . . .we don't know how well the seats work for her). She loves the Odyssey for short-hop duty (She's put 100,000 miles on it in just over 5 years). Yukon/Tahoe has the good seats, but apparently the luggage is supposed to ride in a trailer when all the seats are full.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ouch.gif

When there were only 4 of us the Crew Cab was a SWEET cross country traveler, with or without a camper in tow. With 5 of us a Suburaban/Yukon XL would be better.Edited by: Colorado Kid

That's why my daddy kept a fly swatter and leather belt in the truck. BTW, our family of 4 traveled from job site to job site in the front seat of Reg cab 1-ton welding rig towing a 35 ft travel trailor for 12 years. When I turned sixteen I got to drive my own truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif

In my opinion, my kids should be glad we have a crew cab and not reg cab.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Space for 6 if you get a front bench seathttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Actually, mine has a front bench, and I've had 6 in it several times, but I'm not going to the coast that way. (The center front passenger needs to be pretty helpful (or both), since it also has a 6 speed.)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

When your job title is "Traffic Safety Engineer" you use your seatbelts, and their are only 6 in my Crew Cab and 3 in my Regular Cab. Yes, I rode several across as a kid, and hauled 10 at a time in the back of my truck in High School . . . that's when I was http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif, now I'm a http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif.

Speaking of the fly swatter and belt . . . I just can't reach my kids in the back seat of the crew cabhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif (let alone a Suburban), Advantage Regular Cab.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif I can threaten to unplug the DVD player and make 'em look out the window . . .I'll probably get in trouble with Child Protective Services for cruel and unusual punishment for that.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gifEdited by: Colorado Kid

My childhood days of 4 in the front seat was well before the mandatory seat belt laws. Kind of hard to ride in the back (between the equipment, dogs, bottles, etc...).

I would check some used car reports. Seems to me I remember the Excursion having about the worst reliability of any Ford. Throw a 6.0 on top of that and it sounds like trouble!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Don't get in a hurry. The way the diesel prices are going the cost will come down soon cause so many will be going back to gassers.

I made the switch, I've gone to the dark side . . .I bought a Chevy.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

The darned thing burns some smelly fuels that arent' slippery . . .my choice of gas or E85 (85% Ethanol (160 proof http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif) with enough unleaded gas (15%) mixed into it that you go http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley26.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/throw up.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif if you drink it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

The $4,500 Rebate from GM + $1500 from GMAC + $872 GM Card Points + $1,000 GM Card bonus made it too good for me to pass up a 2004 Suburban. Got the Burb for under invoice with a trade in allowance equal to KBB private party for the D-max. I'm a happy camper. I just wish I could have used all those good things to get a Suburban with a D-max instead of a Vortec 5300. Maybe next time.Edited by: Colorado Kid

I did a trip with 6 in an EC Dodge to go on a dove hunt. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif I didn't think my legs would ever unkink.

The wife sits inbetween our kids 2 carseats if my mom goes and the mother in law gets the back when she goes with us. The mother in law doesn't complain as she knows she won't get invited again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif We did consider an Excessive, but since the 6.0 is having so many problems, that idea was put on hold. We too wait for a DMax Sub that might never come.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif
