Has anyone had the new Skyjacker 6"lift installed? It doesn't require cutting the front diff and can be returned to stock.

I think they all require a little cutting so that they fit right. You might want to talk to a 4WD shop and get their opinion on this matter. I know of only one truck with this kit on it, but I have not talked to the owner personally. Good luck...

I find that 4X4 are usually bias as to whatever brand they like to install. SO please do not take their word as gold.

call skyjacker and talk to a tech.

i originally bought a skyjacker kit for my 01. found out after that i couldn't use my factory wheels. you need to buy new wheels to use thier kit. sent it back and went with a fabtech lift and i was able to use my factory wheels.

I looked at the install instructions and it looks like a really good kit, if I was lifting my truck I think I would get the skyjacker. There is some grinding on the centerlink to make it clear, you just take a little off the part where it is round where your pitman arm goes through it. Shouldn't be enough to weaken it though.

Edited because my brain only works half the time.Edited by: _nar_

Why can you not use your factory wheels? I have been looking at lift kits also and cant decide between rancho (I havnt heard anything bad about them and it sounds pretty simple) or else Fabtech or Skyjacker. Do you need new wheels for all of these?

I am running 5.25" backspaced wheels on a Rancho 4" lift. Rancho recommends 4.5" BS ...but I wanted my wheels/tires "tucked" in as far as possible. Granted, the clearance between the spindle and my tires is only about 1/4" I have no rubbing issues whatsoever. I run 295/75-16's ... not sure 285's would work as the bulge of the tire would probably hit the spindle.

My brother is running a 6" Skyjacker lift on his 04 ...along with Hummer wheels which are 5.5" backspacing ...again no clearance/rubbing issues whatsoever. I'll try to get him to post a few picts of his truck. I also have picts in my sig.

If you have to grind on the tie rod LEAVE IT ALONE, the stock tie rods are small to begin with. I'm going to be biased here but with 25000+ miles I'd say go rancho, we've installed plenty and granted you have to cut mount off diff, but there is a kit around that restores mount to it's original location if you want to go back to stock. Our shop has installed about 15 -20 rancho kits and no problems yet, aligned once and it usually stays put. But definitely ask around since we haven't had much exp with skyjacker there may be tricks I don't know about

The OEM PYO wheels are 5.0" backspacing. H2 wheels are 5.5" backspacing.

I think he meant that you have to grind on the centerlink because the pitman/ilder arms do not touch the tie rods.

Yeah I meant centerlink. What the tierods screw into. On the centerlink where the pitman arm goes through it. It doesn't look like a huge amount removed. I am just going by their install instructions though... You can download them at skyjacker.com and decide for yourself. Nearly every lift manufacturer has install instructions you can download so you can get them all and read them and decide which seems best to you..

I see now about the center link, that's not too bad of a mod then. Only skyjacker I've done was on a 98 K2500(light duty 2500) and it was a NITEMARE with all the control arms having to be lowered(raised?), about 18 or so brackets, thank god for raised knuckles and sub frame kits

NAR..... you chipped your tractor??? that's a true power freak in my book WTGhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock%20On.gif

Hell yeah, why spend another 20-30k on the tractor 2 sizes up when you
can spend 400 on a chip and make it run like that bigger tractor? There
are several companies making chips around, we have a local one near
here that we got this chip from, Schlagel mfg, but now I see even
bullydog is making chips for 8000 series JDs.. Gotta love it...
