Sorry for such an amature question but I am desiring to upgrade my gas to a diesel. Can you experts advise me on models and years to avoid. I will not be able to buy new, so I need guidance on what to look for. I probably can not afford any thing newer than 02.

I currently have a 1982 chev 1 ton 4x4 4 speed with a 501 engine and a gear spliter, which pulls nicely but it is getting old and gets a max. of 5 mpg. I am pulling a 9,000# (empty) 38 ft. 4 horse trailer. It is also so loud and rough to ride in that most, including my wife, refuse join me in my journey.
I need to replace it and like what I have seen in the psd. As I said, I cannot get a new one and am looking for years and models to avoid.

Well....... they all have there share of problems. Get your budget in line first and then go shopping. The older 7.3 transmissions "do" burn up. The injectors (# 8 mainly) can give you fits. The water pump & coolant can be a problem if they are not looked after. The airfilter box will break.....get an AFE ProGuard to replace it. Some PSD's are real tire choppers. These are just some of the things to lookout for. Most of the trucks from 1999 up are about the same with 7.3.
If you work you money the 0% might be the way to go. However, if you want to stay under 20 or 18K you may want to research a little.
The Diesel Stop (http://thedieselstop.com) might be of some help, they have quite a few members.
