How much does the alignment change when you alter the front ride height an inch or two? I’ve never seen mention about needing to get a truck realigned after altering the ride height with the torsion bars.

Is there any guideline on how far is too far to lift in terms of CV shaft angles?

Also, I’ve read posts mentioning “crank the torsion bars up if you can stand the ride.” Why does the ride quality change when you turn the torsion bars up? It should not be changing the preload on the torsion bar, just the static angle, no?

Cranking the torsion bars tends to make the ride stiffer. Many times after cranking the bars you will have to get longer shocks or shock extensions and this can sometimes omprove ride quality.
When cranking your bars, you also dont want to crank them so far that you have steep cv anngles, this will cause increased wear.
You dont absolutely need alignment but it is a good idea to do.

As Heavy said, the rough ride is caused by the shocks bottoming out. The other cause of rough ride is the uca bottoming on the frame bump stop. If you are not cranking over 2", the uca stop should be OK (most of the time). You still should get the shock extensions though. If you want to crank over 2", get the cognito leveling kit....Well worth it.

As far as CV angles...some people say that as long as the ribs on the rubber boots do not touch....thats what I went by, good enough for me. I have not had any CV Issues yet and I cranked mine up 2.75" (Cognito Kit)

I've always heard you need to get an alignment if you crank more than 1inch

I cranked my torsion bars up 1.5" about a year ago. My truck rides very rough now. Not even close to stock. And as far as the alignment, get it done. It will be fine for about 5000 miles, but goes all at one time. When you start to feel it, your tires will start wearing out fast. You can easily fit 33's with the T-bars cranked 1.5".

Good Luck:cool:

Deffinatly get an alignment after cranking. Cranking causes your camber to go out to lunch which will kill your tires.

Are you guys going back to the dealership to get the alignment checked or just some alignment shop. IF going to the dealership, are you telling them you cranked the torsion bars?

Pick a shop that you trust with up to date equipment.

I cranked mine up about 1.75" and the ride didnt change at all on mine, but the alignment was all messed up. I would definetly align it when your done.
And I would NOT take it to the dealer, they could try and use it as an excuse to try and void your warranty. JMO.

Just cranked mine this eve. Called my dealer and made an appointment for that plus I have a few leaks happening.

I plow with mine so they would blame that I'm sure.

MudFlap,
I have seen some posts you have made. What are you trying to do with your truck? I saw you have a RCD kit? Is it not sitting the way you want it?
Also you said that the preload does not change when cracking... thats right but you run out of drop out travel. That makes for a bad ride.

Post some more info and I think we should be able to help you.

Hey guys, I just joined because I traded my 06 powerstorke on an 07 LBZ. Best trade ever! I am looking at posts regarding torsion bars and leveling kits. Nick, what is "drop out travel"?
