: PLEASE HELP ME I THINK I BROKE IT :(
Custom Home Builder 09-25-2004, 09:50 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif PLEASE HELP I THINK I BROKE IThttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif! Today I was pulling my trailer to the county dump and on the way there was a big puddel maby 6" deep and all the way across the road. i decided to go through the puddel at about 30 mph. the truck was pullin like a champ and all of the sudden coughs and turns off. i think oh s**t waterlogged it. i poped the hood and not a lot of water but the air filter is wet so i try to start it it cranks really slow and wont start so i let it sit for about five minutes because it seamed to me like a wet starter. when i tried to start the truck it started but ran really rough and puffed a lot of white smoke i figured well it will go away in about 5 minutes as soon as the filter is dry. No dice 25 miles away now still blowing white smoke.
My next idea was to unplug my edge under the hood to see if that fixes it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif still no luck. I got on here and did a search and no luck only one guy with white smoke said it might be the dirty air filter. PLEASE HELP I DONT WANT TO BUY A NEW $15000 MOTOR
well gosh darnit what can i do now i hate takeing my truck in for service. The stealer is a freekin A$$ Hole and every time i take my truck in there he just says not under warenty no matter what it is. DOES ANY ONE LIVE IN THE GILBERT/ MESA AREA HAVE A DEALER THAT IS GOOD? What do you guys think it could be?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
socaldieseltech 09-25-2004, 10:12 PM Is there any smell to the "smoke"?
air filter was full of water? possible mass air flow sensor failure it is next to the air filter
Polarbear 09-25-2004, 10:22 PM i may be wrong...but wouldnt running w/a wet air filter suck the water/moisture from it and send it to the engine....
white smoke generally is assoicated w/burning coolant or injector failure....
Did you check some of your main electrical connections?
chev4x4fnhi 09-25-2004, 10:51 PM Your air filter box opening is facing your right fender, theres not much for deflection there. Your inner fender well is not going to block all that water at 30mph, your engine obviously sucked in water hence the white smoke and rough running. The question is how much water it ingested? This could be very serious, water cant be compressed. If that wet air filter is still in your air box get it out. Replace it with a new one. I would get some electrical contact terminal spray {for electronics} and spray your MAF sensor with it. Hopefully after all this youll be back on the road. I doubt its a dirty MAF sensor, hopefully its just a soaked air filter and the vacuum of the engine is still pulling water from it. Let us know what happens.
socaldieseltech 09-25-2004, 11:18 PM the intercooler could be full of water and kinda misting the engine with water if you know what I mean. Lots of possibilities. If the smoke smells like coolant, well then thats a problem.
Custom Home Builder 09-25-2004, 11:42 PM the smoke doesent smell like coolant or oil it just smells like a way to rich diesel i checked the oil and no fuel there. do you think i should pull the intercooler and see if there is any water in there?
Burner 09-25-2004, 11:56 PM I think you should pull the airfilter and see what the heck happened. If those filters get too wet and your "Juiced"..... the wet paper can get sucked into the intake. While you're there...slap a new filter in it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

socaldieseltech 09-26-2004, 01:22 AM Yeah you need to see whats up with your filter. If it was just steam then thats one thing but if it smells like raw fuel, you need to check it out.
Custom Home Builder 09-26-2004, 03:07 AM OK GUYS I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING I NEED MORE HELPhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
I have an afe intake on the truck i pulled it off and the filter was dry by the time i got home. The inside of the intake tube didnt look like i expected it to i thought if it sucked up muddy water it would have some kind of evidence left in there like muddy water streaks or something.
This ones sure got me. There are none of the typical signs, coolant low or coolant smell in the exaust, fuel in the oil, or even burning oil smell in the exaust.
What do you think the http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifstealer will do? should I take off every piece of aftermarket stuff i own, so far i took off the afe intake, and the edge. Do you guys think i need to take off the pillar guages (boost, egt, rear differential temp) or are those guages allowed to be there and not hurt the warrenty. should i do anything else before i take it in to http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifservice.

dieselman 09-26-2004, 07:53 AM Definately take the afe and edge off. It's been pointed out by lots of people that leaving the edge on is like playing with fire, some day the dealer will burn you.
The guages shouldn't be a problem because you are monitoring engine and diff function. Let us know what happens.
precision37 09-26-2004, 09:11 AM You maybe got water in the EDU thingy on the passenger side valve cover.
It has a water warning lable on it and I think it has an air vent. I think it controls fuel, etc. Ask one of the techs.
Super Diesel 09-26-2004, 03:04 PM Gages are fine if there in there. If they say somthing about them, just say you monitoring you engine to keep it good as long as possible. You need a compression check on the cylinders if it doesn't clear up. White smoke is also raw fuel from not burning. Most imortaintly, don't EVER admit to any thing and look innocent but concerned about it. Edited by: Super Diesel
Ditto Super diesel
Make it as stock as passible before taking it to your dealer, seems as tho he is just looking for a reason to put the blame on you. Don't admit anything especially the trip thro the water.

Custom Home Builder 09-27-2004, 08:06 PM I took the truck into the shop today & i got a call about 5 minutes ago the problem was 4 bad injectors should have the truck back tommorow by noon.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hey.. that's great!
Polarbear 09-27-2004, 10:29 PM why not get all 8? on top of that you must have one hell of a dealer to not only have injectors right there in stock, but to do the job in just 2 days....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
marky 09-27-2004, 10:32 PM What a relief that must be EH? Glad to hear it was nothing real serious.
I guess the seriousness is all relative. Maybe someday injector replacements will be as cheap and easy as getting a Big Machttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

Were all 4 on the same bank?
Mackin 09-28-2004, 08:16 AM I dunno about anyone else but that diagnostic sounds very odd to me.

Burner 09-28-2004, 12:23 PM Yeah Mac, I agree. That's sounds kind'a weird to me....... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
Fishing, no........getting hooked, yes.
Custom Home Builder 09-30-2004, 01:36 AM Hello no burner all 4 were not on the same bank they were 1,3,4,8. but now i have a bigger problem now they are calling in the regional service manager to see if they can get authorization to fix the motor or if they can find anything wrong so they can make me pay for it. what should i tell them and if they try to make me pay for this what should i do. there isnt a spec of after market stuff on it. please help me.
Burner 09-30-2004, 02:52 AM You are at their mercy...... to a point. There are no power "inhancements" on the truck, only better guages...right? Listen closely and don't say too much. Remember........ "they know everything" and if you mention something they don't know....well, your Shttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gift canned in their book. Think of it as your sand-dog. Yes, you have no idea what that is.....keep it that way. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

a64pilot 09-30-2004, 07:31 AM If it really is injectors, driving through a mud hole didn't kill four of them at once. You haven't done anything wrong.

What you should tell them is you want all eight replaced, not just four.

Odd indeed. If this occured after hitting that water I would lean more towards a wet EDU. A puddle and injectors do not correlate.
Burner 09-30-2004, 11:37 AM ....... In some wild sequence of events...by Murphy himself..... your fuel pick-up line got a crack in it and when you crossed the puddle it sucked water into the line....trash passed the filter and clogged 4 out of 8 of your injectors......... LOL http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Just let them fix it. The motor is covered by a 100,000 mile warrenty and the injectors are included.
Keep us posted
