: lift pumps?

From what I have read it seems that the 6.5 pump uses special fittings. Is this correct? Or can I use a regular flare fitting?

Anyone use the Holley red top pump? Is it noisy? Can the LLY pull through this pump if it fails?

Thanks for any comments.

DO NOT BUY THE HOLLEY RED PUMP, IT WILL NOT LAST! I put one on my 2001 duramax and it only worked for a short time. After a few weeks, I could not run the truck with everything cranked, it would kick and buck like crazy.
Plus the thing was very loud at times. I got my new one from hucksdorf diesel in Franklin, WI.

If you're talking about the Delco EP309 it uses a flared 3/8" tube with an O-ring behind it. They are readily available at Napa, I think they are used as a fuel filter repair kit. Kennedy (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/) also sells a custom made adaptor for these pumps.Edited by: TC Dmax

If you want a simple pump (not necessarily hi perf) the 6.5 pump will work well. It doesn't put out a ton of volume, but does keep the fuel in the lines under pressure MOST of the time. Restriction hasn't been a problem, as I have tested it with a Hot Juice at 450RWHP, but it does flip to negative psi just like without a pump.

Yeah, the EP309. So guess I check NAPA for the fittings.

John, thanks for the comments. I'm stock now and will probably be for some time to come, so I don't really need a high performance pump. The goal is mainly to keep the filters fullhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

In searching around it looks like the Carter might be a candidate. They spec it for diesel fuel, but the draw back is that the pressure is 6 psi. I guess that would not be to much.

Thanks for the comments so far, if there are more I would like to hear them.

Thanks!

Jim

the carter isn't too bad if it is mounted on rubber mounts

I went up to silver lake and played in the sand over the weekend. I've got a pull each of the next three weekends.

I run the 6.5 pump and have the P4600HP carter "T"ed in and only turn it on for the big runs so I don't have to listen to it all the time. They work in unison when I turn it on. They are rubber mounted as well.Edited by: Super Diesel

I had the street/strip Carter unit on my old 6.5 truck. It did not last 1 year, and quit. VERY restrictve when stalled. The 6.5 wouldn't drive at all till I bypassed it.

This one had 3 studs and rubber grommets which I believe is the same style as th 4600 series???

Here's the 6.5 pump/fittings that I use:

Yea, thats the one. Just run a 10 micron filter or better in front of it so it keeps the contaminants out of it. Thanks for the pic John.
