: New boost gauge inop.
Savage77 04-24-2007, 11:48 PM Just bought a mechanical Cobalt series boost gauge, and cant for the life of me get it to work. Anyone else had any problems? I wish i knew what was up with this thing. Thanks in advance, Plus i bought superdiesel's manifold adapter for the boost gauge, not sure if its working right nor not, i can pull the plug completely out of it with little to no escape.

8100 Power 04-25-2007, 12:01 AM IIRC, There have been some members with non working gauges straight outta of the box! Im finshing mine up thursday and i hope everything goes well....:)
Savage77 04-25-2007, 12:50 AM what have they done to get them replaced?
Reineke 04-25-2007, 12:51 AM Have you tried it under a load or just reving up in the driveway?
Savage77 04-25-2007, 09:24 AM I drove the hell out of it. Not a single reading.
Tolliwacker 04-25-2007, 04:48 PM Pull the hose off the back of the gauge and then drive it, and see if you can feel any air pressure comming out of the tube, then you will know if it is a bad gauge or not.
Savage77 04-25-2007, 05:36 PM How much air pressure should i expect to be feeling for. I guess the question is how sensitivie are the gauges? Could you blow in the back of one and see the needle move?

I think you would see something. I think you can make a couple of PSI.
I knew this girl once.... (not going there) ):h
Tolliwacker 04-25-2007, 06:08 PM You would be suprised as to how much is involved in getting that gauge to respond, but use your compressor, and turn the regulator down to about 20 PSI and give it a go!

No, it does take quite a bit...
ARbowhunter7 04-25-2007, 07:50 PM When I was installing my Auto Meters, I blew around 5 psi into the tube, but my eyeballs felt like they were gonna pop out. That sucks that your gauge isn't workin. I had the same thing, except it was my pyro. I called Auto Meter and they're EXTREMELY helpful, but it's like 8100 power said, there are a surprising number of Auto Meter gauges that don't work right out of the box. That seems weird to me, cause when it comes to gauges, they're where its at. Anyway, turns out my pyro had a bad probe from the factory. I was pissed at first, but they were really apologetic and sent me a new probe (not exactly a cheap part) with no questions asked and I had it in 3-4 days. Works great now.
One thing you might wanna check on that boost gauge before you go raisin hell, though. Disconnect the hose from the back of the gauge and make sure that, when you tightened that nut down on that little brass bead, you didn't kink or constrict the hose. That hose kinks REAL easy, and is kinda fragile. Good luck. I'm sure you'll get it figured out.
tmm403 04-26-2007, 08:02 AM when I installed my boost guage,my boost hose got kinked and no air was going through it..found out later when i was routing it thru the firewall it got messed up...so check ur lines. also is urs mechanical or electric...mechanical are easy to hook up.
Savage77 04-26-2007, 09:44 AM tmm403, Its mechanical and thanks for the boost of confidence. lol. but if "hooking it up" was the issue i wouldnt waste my time doing stuff like this. All ive been looking for is some seccond oppinions. Which im glad to have gotten thanks all.

When i tightened it, it did squeeze the hose a little bit but there is still flow available. I'm gonna get some new compression fittings, and see if that doesnt fix it then im gonna get with Autometer about a new gauge.
Savage77 04-30-2007, 09:45 AM SUCCESS!! There was a kink in the boost line. it was in a weird spot and hard to find. A compression union later, and we're good to go.
