Does anyone know if there is a kit available for a cold air intake for my 97 3500 dually with the 6.5L? I have had no luck finding one yet and was curious. Also, if there isn't one available, has anyone custom run one? If so, what was the configuration? Thanks!

Don't bother with an after market intake they do not make a difference. Many tests have been done and the before and after numbers are the same.

I was sort of hoping to get some extra umph out of my truck to pull a 29' gooseneck trailer, so if a cold air intake isn't going to help me out any, what is the best bang for the buck mod out there I can do to my truck? It's fully stock at this point. On a budget here, so nothing too radical.
Thanks again, Matt

Whaaaat??????? I bought one from SS Diesel for $100. The best $100 I ever spent on the truck (I had a 6.5). Much smoother power and better acceleration. Most of all, I improved milage by at least 3-4mpg. My test was done and the numbers changed enough to make it worth while for me. I used to log every tank. I towed with the truck often too. I'm sure others would agree.

Apparantly "Durabucks guys" are lyers and never experienced anything with other vehicles. That is probably the dumbest observation I have noticed here so far. I actually owned my first D-max before purchasing the 6.5. I recently sold the 6.5, but owned my second D-max in the process. What does this make me now? Nevertheless, I find it hard to believe that anyone here would recommend not spending $100, even if the improvements were minor (which they're not). Anything with a turbo craves air. Loose the cat and get a cold air. You will wake up that sleeping dog-hands down. Here's a pic of mine for the disbelievers:

Got pics of it? I checked out Ebay and he's not listing anything like that right now. Discontinued?

Check out JK auto's setup. He had a thread on here a while ago which moved the battery and put the filter behind the headlight. If you search for it you should find it. It was titled "cold air intake almost done" or something along those lines.

One of the best setups I have seen so far.

Sorry for the misunderstanding! I thought that you agreed on it not doing anything. I didn't notice that the other post was from a D-max owner too.

Having a filter by the battery shouldn't be considered a CAI kit. Unless its sealed and only bringing in fresh outside air, then it can be called one. Sitting at the battery, its still sucking in hot, underhood air.

No, he moved the battery to where the airbox usually is and put the filter where the battery is supposed to be. Last I knew he was in the progress of building a heatshield and sealing it to the bottom of the hood.

This is his right here while he was in the progress.

I checked it out, just an elbow and filter. They state they've tested IAT's and there lower with there setup. I honestly don't understand but is guess data is data.

Ya, I agree with you that the PVC elbow isn't that great, but that alluminum tubing and heatshield looks like it would work pretty good if you ask me.

Chewyman1, I took the old intake out of my pickup and reused the rubber boot then took a 3" sweeping pvc elbow which fits in the old boot and clamped it. Then get a Napa filter #6441 which fits snuggly over the 3" pvc fitting. Cheap air flow.

Take a look at Chevydave's fender vent. He's on page 28 of the C listings' in the members' list area. I copied his idea, with the snorkel removed and I'm very happy with it. I'm running a K&N but there may be better filters. I was running a SSDeisel kit but found it wasn't as good in warmer weather. It was fine in cold weather and gave lots of turbo whistle, but I switched back to the stock box when I put on the fender vent. I used a BMW vent with a scoop on the back for the forced air effect. It's exactly the same as Chevydave's.
