Should I be concerned about oil pressure reading on the low side at idle? Is this a common thing with the duramax?

Define low. Mine with conventional oil will have about 25 PSI at idle when warm according to the gauge.

Mine also stays in the 30 psi range, 50-60 at speed. Even at higher speeds. 2004 LLY.

Mine is around 25 psi at idle when warm with 5w-40 Shell Rotella synthetic on a 75 degree day.

Mine usually gets into that range... Might be time to go back to regular from synthetic.. Not sure if that is causing it...

I know its comparing apples and oranges, but I have a 1981 turbo Mercedes diesel 3.0 liter, and the owners manual says idle oil pressure as low as 0.5 bar (that's 7.5 psi) is acceptable. I normally see about 1.3 bar (about 20 psi) at idle when the engine is hot.

At idle, so long as oil is flowing everywhere it should, 20 psi or so should be no problem I would think.

I am running 20-25 psi at idle with Schaeffer's 15w-40 synthetic blend.

Its probably a bad O/P gage.....mine did the same thing before I changed it.

I get my true oil pressure reading from my X-Monitor http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
