Just got my "NEW and IMPROVED!" stainless steel tailgate cables yesterday.

Apparently GM just got their first boat load of them from.......CHINA!!!!!!!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Thats right! Each one had a little sticker wrapped around it that said "Made in China".

I hadn't heard they were imported from China, but I did get mine put on the other day. I finally had one of the originals break and called the dealer. They had some in stock and said to bring it on in. Now I can stand on my tailgate with confidence again!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I think I'll give Victory Red a call when mine break.

China? Thats interesting. I got a replacement set from the dealer back the first week of August. They were the old ones and said "made in China" on a white label that wrapped around the cable. Lets hope that the ones that you got are in fact the new stainless ones. Maybe someone could check the part # and verify.

they probably are the new ones the p# of the updated ones is the same as the ones weve had in stock since november of last year which is really odd and they are all made in china

The dealer told me they were the ones that were sent for the recall.

Interesting though, even though I did not have the actual recall notice, I did have the first letter they sent with me. I just showed it to the dealer, showed them the broken strap, and they put two new ones on with no questions asked.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

They did tell me that the recall was broken down into 8 different "waves", older models first, so they would not get hit with every one at one time.Edited by: Grey Ghost

I was at the dealer the other week getting my improved steer shaft put in and I asked about the cables. They had them in stock and put them on no questions asked. Mine also have the china label on them.

So far they work, and the steering feels nice and tight for a change. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Don't wait. Fix it right the first time and forget about it. I.E. Put on the VR straps and never worry about your tailgate again.

I took in my 2000 last week because one of the cable was frayed and they replaced them with the new ones. (Interesting to note that I had already had the straps replaced once before for them breaking)

I left the dealership and a few days later lowered the tailgate to find it fell all the way to the bumper! They put the wrong straps on.

I am waiting on them to call for the 2004 truck.
