OK, I think I am a little worried. My truck has 5000 miles on it and today I noticed a wierd ticking almost tapping noise coming from the engine compartment. I always drive with my windows open and I park in a garage so I know I would have heard this noise before (infact my wife even mentioned the noise before I said anything). I thought it was a heat shield or something but after crawing under the truck while it was running it isounds like it is coming from the center of the engine. It almost sounds like something is tapping on the inside of the oil pan.


Does anybody know what this could be. The dealer changed the oil about 1 hour brfore I heard the noise.


Any input would be great.

Dont worry is common GM saids its normal. I had mine in and they gave me a copy of the TBS bullitin.

Thanks guys, I was really nervous. My truck has been absolutley perfect since I got it and really want it to stay that way. The description in the TSB is exactly what my noise is like. Maybe the difference in oil use by the dealer and what was in from the factory is what made it more noticable today.

My "tick" finally went away after 9000 km. It started right after the first oil change. On the 3rd oil change using Rotella T it began to lessen, then it never came back. I hope it never comes back, I hated that tick,
