My results just came back and the big question still remains unanswered,,,,Where did the high level of Copper come from??

The lab said if it was from bearings or wrist pins there would be additional metals,, they really could not explain high copper content.

Any techs care to give it a try?

BTW the count was 44 PPM and thats with a Fram main oil filter and a filtrations 2500 bypass, other than the copper, all else was fine.

No, alcohol, no fuel dilution, no antifreeze. Soot .01% WT all that with 10k miles on the oil.

Coolers are usually made of copper, and vibration of diesels is known to work harden and crack. If you can be sure it isn't bearing material, I would suspect a cooler problem.

Marc,

Thats a thought, I wonder if the internal oil cooler is made of copper?

Tech Gurus any thoughts here?

Anybody else had an initial high first reading on copper?

I do my oil analysis with http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/)

They spell out the source of the copper.

They will also tell you what readings to expect during the break in period.

Check it out.
