: Paging Michael Tomac
Got Juice? 09-24-2004, 11:10 AM Mike, how much nitrous jet does it take to maintain 1200F on a 1/4 mile run when running the bigger programs. The stack and the VA both peg 1500 around the 300' mark.
Until a turbosystem is up and running, i may have to bottle feed for a while.
Max Power 09-24-2004, 11:21 AM Things have changed since 2 days ago I see. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Kennedy 09-24-2004, 11:41 AM Nitrous will INCREASE the EGT's on a big box in any case that I've observed...
Better get a gauge that reads across 2000°...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
McRat 09-24-2004, 11:44 AM Water.
Micheal Tomac 09-24-2004, 11:54 AM Who cares about EGT's on a Duramax. They will take the heat. If I haven't melted this thing by now I doubt I will after 150+ passes at the dragstrip and the pulling track.
I peg a 1500 degree gauge pre turbo for 10-12 seconds on a fuel only pass and 8-10 seconds on a nitrous pass
Got Juice? 09-24-2004, 05:49 PM OUCH!
Water meth is the only viable way to decrease the EGT's then?
LOL.... time to run stock for a while.... ans Naturally aspirated http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
JakeGMCHD 09-24-2004, 08:34 PM Got Juice?
Water/Meth will keep you around 1000*F.
White Duramax 09-24-2004, 08:55 PM Water or more air of course, just build ya a pedastal and throw a hybrid turbo on it, for as much as you are spending on stock turbos you could have had one.
Got Juice? 09-24-2004, 11:35 PM heck... ebay seems to feed my appetite for destruction..... but darn supply and demand... they are going up in $$$$$$
GMC2500HD 09-25-2004, 08:44 PM That is what happens when you have so much power.... You have a nice demand and just no supply to get it with....lolhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Got Juice? 09-25-2004, 10:01 PM That is what happens when you have so much power.... You have a nice demand and just no supply to get it with....lolhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Brutal..... soon.....soon.....
moss022 09-27-2004, 08:32 PM while you are talking about egts, i entered a smoke show contest. it ran for 30 sec. or so. i started out at about 1550 and slowly went down to about 1450. i am not worried about the 1400's, what about the 1500's for a slightly long time than a drag pass??? just wondering. nothing happenend just wondering what everyone thinks. whats that highest and longest anyone has held a temp. for?????
jeremy
Got Juice? 09-27-2004, 08:51 PM Lately, over 1500F for 2 minutes....BUT EGT's over 1250 result in cumulative damage..... beware.... although Mtomac has had no problems it still makes me shiver.....
moss022 09-27-2004, 09:27 PM thats why i ask, hoping to learn from others mistakes.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Mackin 09-27-2004, 10:12 PM Has anyone heard of a melt down?
Mac http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
a64pilot 09-28-2004, 08:48 AM Somebody melted several piston heads pulling a horse trailer with the juice quite a while back although there was discussion of injectors being at fault. Then there seemed to be a run of head gasket failures that has since then dried up?
On edit: the aluminum cyl heads just haven't been the forcasted problem have they. I bet they are at least part of the reason that Dmax seems to handle thermal stress as well as it seems to. Oil cooling the pistons hasn't seem to hurt eitherhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gifEdited by: a64pilot
BassinRVer 09-28-2004, 05:18 PM I remember TLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kennedy 09-28-2004, 06:23 PM This may not be an exact apples to apples comparison, but it is representative of what I see when spraying:

3-Fan 09-29-2004, 12:37 PM I don't know much about this, but was at a tractor pull the other night where they were running the Super Stocks. The big farm tractor diesels. They were running water injection to cool things down. Don't think it was water Meth. because I saw a guy in the pits open the side panel and dump a couple gallons of distilled water into a tank. Said they burn about a quart of water per trip down the track.
Could this work on a truck?
