: 38" tires on a stock suspesion 01 duramax?
shawn macananny 04-22-2007, 07:50 PM My 1988 F350 just threw a rod threw the block so Im wanting to take the wheels and tires from it and put them on my 2001 2500 HD. The wheels have the same lug pattern and enough backspacing that they look like they will fit. The wheels are 16.5"x12 and are weld racing rims. The tires are 38x15.5 super swampers. I was just wondering if i could use the wheels or the wheels and the tires. If i cant use the tires what is the biggest mud tire i can use? Also what ammount of lift would i have to have to run these tires? I have a utility body bed so i have a good bit of clearence in the wheel well.
OneTALLGMC96 04-22-2007, 08:24 PM Cutout flares and at least a 4-6" Lift to have a chance IMO. 16X12 are a very wide wheel. I ran 38X15.50 on 16X10 on my OBS and it took 3" body lift and 8-10" Suspension lift.
shawn macananny 04-22-2007, 08:41 PM Haha awesome. my ford had 4" in the rear 8" in the front. Sounds like ill just be buying some 33" tires for those wheels. I gotta tow 12k+ in this thing so i really dont want it 6" higher than it is plus the 8" taller tire. Ill just crank up the torsion bars, maybe some 2" lifting blocks for the rear and cut some stuff up front and they should fit right?
yitsock 04-22-2007, 08:57 PM Keep us posted on what you do, I like the big wheel no lift look.

CrazyMan 04-22-2007, 09:31 PM I hope that was a joke.
shawn macananny 04-30-2007, 10:46 PM So this weekend when i replace the rotors, I'm going to try to fit the wheels on there, see how much i will have to cut. I already know i have to cut away pretty much the entire wheel well of the utility bed but thats only fiberglass, I'll also have to cut away most of the front wheel well too. I think they might just fit though.
The offset of the wheels is going to leave it so most of the wheel it out of the wheel well. When i measured it up where the wheel mounts to the hub there is going to be about the same ammout of wheel towards the inside of the truck as the stock wheel. Pretty much the width of the wheel is going to be extended outward which is why i think it might all fit.
Anyone think this might work? I dont mind cutting any of the body of the truck and it doesnt look like the wheel will rub at all on the inside. I have to rhino liner the bed of the truck anyway so i figure ill remove the plastic wheel wells and rhino line new ones on since my utility body doesnt have them. This is about the only way to make them match.
ockgator 05-01-2007, 01:05 AM With that much offset you may as well take the front bumper off, as well as the inner fender liners... and get a few sets of front hubs to carry as spares
On newer Gm's it's better to tuck the wheels in, less bumper cutting, you may have to massage the inner rear fender well but that's not as obvious cosmetically as whacking the bumper and/or fascia
hemisareslow 05-01-2007, 01:56 AM Yeah good luck with that....i went from the 6" wide stock rim to a 16" by 8" aftermarket rim with 285 75 16's...i had to crank my t bars and do some serious trimming and they still rub a little...i am gonna go out on a limb and say you will not fit those rims under your truck with out at least a 4" suspension lift...and still some major trimming
_nar_ 05-01-2007, 02:11 AM Umm no? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/garage.php?do=big&p=4811
Unless you'd like to remove the entire fender.
malibu795 05-01-2007, 02:51 AM this is basicly what you are looking at to get it to fit

Ben46a 05-01-2007, 06:23 AM The wheell wells are only 34" wide.......
joispoi 05-01-2007, 06:42 AM here ya go...38" tires with minimal lift...2005 1500 you'll have to scale the distance between the hub and the top of the hood to get an idea of how much lift you'll need.

jdugie123 05-01-2007, 09:11 AM ya with out doing a 6" lift i don't think you are going to be able to fit that size rim and a tire that will be wide enough to put on it if the weight you haul is an issue look in my garage that is well more the 12k lbs and i do it with 6" lift and 37" tires
CrazyMan 05-01-2007, 06:23 PM why the hell would you want that?? looks like ****
Coles_D/A 05-01-2007, 07:09 PM I agree, if you going to put on 38's put a damn suspension lift on that will actually not make it look like crap...
