no offense intended, but add periods to the end of your sentences so its easier to read.

Ether is bad for a diesel.

Crack the valve on top of the fuel filter and turn the key to the on position, should be an even stream of fuel coming out of the filter for a moment. If its all bubbly and such, then cycle the key as needed till its a solid stream.

Get a battery charger and charge your batteries overnight. An alternator takes awhile to charge the batteries after excessive cranking.

Hopefully the other didnt break anything.

Also might not hurt to go through the checklist at the top of the forums, in the stickies. Report results here.

Just me, but 210 degrees is crazy high.

i assume it didnt run hot before all this? 210 on the dash gauge doesnt always mean its running that hot, they can be inaccurate, but i doubt it would have gone bad in between fuel filters.

Whens the last time you unbolted and cleaned both ends of all you battery cables?

Kind of a wild shot but starter fluid can damage glow plugs. This may be causing hard start due no glows or even possibly causing an open circuit robbing power from batteries.

I think you should clean out inbetween the radiator and condensor and see if that brings the temp down, plus like Scruf said clean all the connections at the battery and grounds on the engine, firewall, and frame.I added a 4 gage ground from the Alternator bracket to the frame and the rpm change in starting( Starter was faster)was a big Noticable difference.

You guys are talkin batt's, cleaning the cables and so on, but what about a starter that is dragging? Sounds like it may be an issue with a slow start that seem to battery related, but is a crapped out starter?
These diesels need to crank at a pretty good speed in order for a good start.
Hey, just my .05

Good luck.

cleaning the cables up nice is the cheaper way to diagnose the starter. First step, is a way of putting it.

I think everyone is being nice to you by dancing around what is the real problem. They are right, you should try these easier fixes first, but...There is a reason your not suppose to put starting fluid in a diesel. This guy did the same thing (http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=22101) you did. Take something that flamable, compress it, and blow it up, something has got to give. Head gasket, block, valve covers. Try everthing everyone here tells ya to try thats cheap. But, after a knock then hard starting, you might be lucky and have only screwed up your valves.

just had dragging starter problem, check amperage draw on starter cable. that will tell you if your starter is hooped. excessive cranking will burn it up.
