2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax/Allison 4x4 - no suspension adjustments/mods:

I've had the truck since March & just figured it was/is normal, but was approached by an older gentleman who's been driving trucks for over 50 years & he says his Sierra is the harshest ride he's ever had...

Question is - I notice on some freeways, the characteristic "bounce" gets to be incredibly severe - as the older guy put it, "I swear it's coming off the ground sometimes".

Is this a common issue? Is it something that can be addressed with a simple shock upgrade? I may look into a spring swap someday (to deal with Baja terrain), but for now am just curious about the "bouncy" ride quality on freeways.Edited by: inte

Recommendation on a particular model Bilstein shock? I don't want to raise the truck at this point (motorcycle ramp would start to get a little too steep) - I'd like to keep the torsion bars & springs where they are, just improve the ride.

just remember this is not a two wheel drive 1500 pickup it is a "work truck" for heavier loads that means stiffer suspension and it is going to have a bouncy ride......$.02

But the Bilsteins do improve ones ride greatly! Hands down. Good luck.

Whats your tire pressure at and what tires do you have? If you have 80psi in the rear unloaded it will ride like a log waggon.

My bounce was from the front, which I assume to be from a combination of heavy engine with marginal shocks. Bilsteins in the front took care of the bounce. They're too firm for me in the rear though, and I prefer leaving the OEM's on the rear for now.
