: Dealer not lubing chassis/linkage anymore?

Came back yesterday from my dealer after oil change. I looked under the truck to see if all the zerks had been greased. Found out they were dirty with accumulated dust/dirt.

Called service guy and he was "unsure" and said to "bring it by and I'll have it looked at"

Called service manager who told me it had not been lubed. Told him the owner's manual calls for a chassis/linkage lube at every oil change. The write-up said "Quick Service. Change Oil/filter and top off all fluids" OK, my bad. It did not sink in that a lube was not forthcoming.

A check of one earlier dealer write up said "Quick Service. Change oil/filter. Lube all fittings."

Earlier dealer paperwork also shows no lube for two oil changes.

OK, what is going on? How can the dealer override the GM maintenance booklet which calls for a chassis/linkage lube with EVERY oil change?

I only have 8600 miles on the truck. Four dealer oil changes resulted in one (1) chassis/linkage lube.

Any thoughts?

Despite what your owner's manual might say, chassis lubrication has not ever been considered part of an oil change by service people. Some dealers might do it as a courtesy, but it's basically extra for most.

That's why when you go in, you tell them you want an LOF or Lube, Oil and Filter change.

each dealer is free to set up the services as they see fit.. regardless of GM's recomendations

Lack of grease = premature worn compoents = dealer service work required after warranty runs out. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

So, if I were to do this myself, can someone tell me where all the Zerk fittings were? Pics would be VERY beneficial.

Any recommendations on a grease gun? Autozone or Pep boyz are what I have around here.

And....on these trucks, Proper grease = premature worn compoents = dealer service work required after warranty runs out.

I personally grease my truck, I do it correctly. Both lower ball joints gone at 60M miles.

Deadfurrow, the link doesn't work for me. It says I'm not a registered user. Anyone else have this problem?

Click on the "hoot" link - if it tells you "only registered users have permission......." go back up to the upper right of the page, click on log-in and logg-in again. I had to do the same when I tried it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
