Hello

I'm going to order wheels this week, but I need to sure that the wheels are not sticking outside the truck?

From vendor:

Please check to see if 5" from the face of the hub out will be ok... Add 1.5" for tire bulge

Is 5" backspace, to much??

Who are you ordering from?
Just curios, thinking of ordering myself but selling overseas usually seems to be the problem for the sellers...

5" of backspacing is what the factory wheels come with on a 6" wheel.

If I am now mistaken the factory wheels are 16" by 6.5" with a backspacing of 4-7/8". There was an option of a 16" by 7" wheel as well with the same backspacing. A 5" backspaced wheel on a 16" by 8" wheel will work very well and the tires will not stick out very much! This does depend on the size of tire you are running.

factory wheels have more then 5 inches of bs. around 5.5 iirc. my h2s have 5.5 and they dont stick out much at all with 35/12.5s

WHY do you not want them sticking out of the truck?

The OEM 16'' x 7'' wheels that come on the 3500 SRW have 5-5/32'' (5.156'') of backspace. The offset is 29 mm.

The OEM 16'' x 6.5'' wheels on the 2500HD have 4-7/8'' (4.875'') of backspace and 28.6 mm offset.

I have both types of wheels and have measured them both.

Hope this helps.

You can play around with different sizes here and get a good idea on how well they will fit.

Enter the OEM dimmesions on the left hand side and the new tires and wheels on the right hand side.

So, I assume these are 10" wheels? Backspace is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the back edge of the wheel. If that measurement is 5", and you also have 5" from the hub mounting surface out, then I'm guessing your are looking at 10" wheels. This would give you over 3-1/3" additional wheel "sticking out" than you had with stock wheels, assuming that the stock wheels you had were the factory alloys that had a 4-7/8" width. Now, if they are 8" wide wheels, then that cuts it down to 1-1/3". Still very noticeably different than the stockers. You will have some trimming to do......

The further the wheels stick out, the more stress on the IFS especially when sledpulling or drag racing or off-roading.

Funny thing is, all the wheel mfr's think everyone WANTS the wheels to stick out, so 8" wheels with only 4.5" BS are common.

When shopping on the Interwebby, use 2005 Dodge or H2 Hummer if it asks. You are more likely to find deep BS.

Mine are 17x9's and IIRC they are about 5" backspace, they fit quite nicely:D 38177
