This may be a pretty dumb question, but is there anything running off of vacum on our diesel pickups (for brakes, etc)? If so, where would you go about checking what vacum you are pulling, and what is the usual range of vacum being pulled as well?
Thanks in advance for helping with such a goofy question... Its just that a local event states that the vehicle must be able to pull 14in of vacum at 1000rpm.....I dont know if a diesel would fall in this class or not...
Thanks again,
Jason

there is no vacuum on a diesel because there is no throttle plate. Depending on your truck you may or may not have a vacuum pump, I know all the CA emissions ones that I work on have a pump, but its for the egr and such. Your brakes use hydroboost. I think you would be an exception to the vacuum rule for this event.

That makes perfect sense to me. Its just that the guys running the event told me that if I won that I would have to pull vacum.... I told them good luck finding that but thought maybe I had a brake booster or something running off vacum for them to check...oh well. The same person also made the comment that if he was beaten by a diesel, then the diesel deserves the win.
Thanks agian,

I think the power brakes run out of the power steering pump. That was the case when I had my diesel Oldsmobile back in the 1980's.

After you whip em, tell them that just because their truck sucks is no reason why your's should http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

I like that one! I know as soon as I get a 4in lift and a set of bogger tires for next season I'll be in the placing where they'll have to worry about it, thats for sure!

Interesting point to know is how much vacuum is created before the turbo @ full boost??????
Maybe these motors do suck more!!! http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
I guess it would also depend on how dirty the filter is! http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Yeah, I think their standard is at 1000rpm. The turbo wouldnt even be boosting that much then. I think spicer may have posted something about that in the air filter study thread but I dont have the patience to wade through that long thread!
