just got done installing new firestone air bags and have a question about how much psi to run with no load - ive been told anywhere between 5-40, and i know there should be a good answer somewhere, i looked through my directions and it didnt mention it

I have the air lift super duty, so I imagine a pretty similar ride. I tested unloaded at about 7 psi, 10, and 20. I like the lower pressure better, a very smooth ride, better than stock to my surprise.
You shouldn't run below the minimum pressure recommended by Firestone (5 psi for mine, so again I imagine similar for Firestone). Try a couple different settings and see how you like them. For me, lower is better unloaded.
Good Luck,

My Firestone instructions said 5 psi. I find they hold air better at 10 psi, and the ride is pretty much the same. I think as pressure goes up, the lines seal better.

Where did you guys mount the compressor?

i didnt, was thinking about it but instead just routed underneath and put the nipples under the back bumper, secured so that all you see is a chrome step cap on each side, undo cap, fill with air... i went that route as i always have available air most of the time in my truck or toy hauler so it wasnt that big of a thing for me

Mike330R,
I used the compressor from my air horns, which also has a small holding tank and a tire nipple and a short air hose that will reach all tires.
I put the nipples from the air bag at the front of the right rear fender well since the compressor and tank are mounted under the right rear door inside the chrome steps. Hard to see unless you are looking for it, and very convenient for airing the bags or tires. There are pictures in this thread of my air horns setup and there is one or two of the compressor:

I went this route because I will maybe adjust mine once or twice a year.

I am having issues mounting the bags. the lower bracket does not seem to fit flush onto the axle. Should it?
Can another post a pic of the lower bracket?

Mike330R,
Are you mounting the Air Lift or Firestones? If Air Lift, I had to roll the brackets from the front to the back, it was a little tricky but with persistance I was able to get it after a minute or two. The brackets do sit flat on the jounce plate on the axle. Sorry I don't have any pics of the install, and I probably couldn't get any good ones now since it is dark.

I am running the fire stone set-up. There is no way without cutting the notches larger to it to sit right on the axle.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Sorry I couldn't help . . . I'm sure there are plenty of guys with the Firestones to give you a hand.
