: Fuel Filter - Idle Noises?
TexasDriver 04-17-2007, 01:26 PM Will changing the filter make the engine run a little smoother at idle? I bought the truck with 40k on it, and theres just little surging at idle.
Honestly no idea how many miles are on the filter.
Reineke 04-17-2007, 08:06 PM I have found that to be the case once or twice. Truck hesitated under WOT. It's not too much to change it out, kinda cheap insurance. Good luck! :thumb:
jmg343 04-17-2007, 08:19 PM A good additive, or 2 stroke oil, or whatever poison you choose can often times help rid your motor of such surges as well.

Not a bad idea and then you'll have a baseline for maintenance.
TexasDriver 04-17-2007, 09:41 PM Thanks guys. I don't have class on Thursday so I'll get to Auto Zone or Napa and find one and try to change it.
Auto Zone has that deal where they can loan you tools correct? I don't have a filter wrench.
PoPsRacing 04-17-2007, 10:34 PM Buy a wrench and keep it in your truck, you never know when you might need it and they're only $10.00.
LarryJewell 04-18-2007, 06:53 AM wouldn't be a bad idea to have the fuel system flushed.
TexasDriver 04-18-2007, 07:33 PM Changed the filter today, no such luck. Probably end up taking it in to have it checked out.
It's really weird. Theres a certain point when I'm sitting at a light and I'm on the brake and starting to creep forward.....that the truck sorta lunges forward ever so slightly...
joncar 04-18-2007, 10:48 PM there is an soft ware update for this...see if your dealer will do it for you..i had this done last year..helped a lot...joncar...

x2
TexasDriver 04-19-2007, 10:10 PM Took it in today, we'll see what happens. Truck wouldn't cooperate in the parking lot and refused to make any abnormal noise. Typical. Maybe the fuel filter change worked? Guy suggested that it might be my anti-lock brakes...:wtf:
I'll get her back tomorrow afternoon and I'll post the findings.
TexasDriver 04-19-2007, 10:14 PM Oh and BTW that DIY turorial really helped with changing that filter....only problem I had was getting the damn filter off....it was torqued on there so tight that I bent my brand new filter wrench:damnit1:
Reineke 04-19-2007, 10:27 PM Was this the first time the filter has been changed?
TexasDriver 04-19-2007, 11:53 PM Not sure, I didn't have an exhaust cutter so I just disposed of the old one.
Seemed to run a little better though. Probably just my imagination...time will tell if that will help the surging.
TexasDriver 04-20-2007, 05:21 PM Got the truck back, but I had to take it back early before they could even look at it....they told me it would be today early afternoon at the latest...but it turns out it was going to be middle of next week, and they dont work Saturdays.
Good news is that I think that fuel filter change really did a whole bunch of good. Surge is hardly there anymore. I think for those of you who might have the same problem....you might look up that DIY filter change.
I bought a Wix filter BTW
