I've seen some good prices on these rims. But where do i get the Chevy centers for them? One of the guys on E-Bay was selling the centers for $169.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifThat's more than the rims.

As always Thanks for the Info!!!

Wouldn't the stock centers work? Looking at hoot's wheels he appears to be using the standard GMC centers. One issue could be the Chevy/GMC centers are shiny and the H2 rims are dull, maybe that's why many are shining the H2 wheels?

Ray403Dmax

If hoot doesn't mind, here's a link to his setup. It looks like he needed to spif the H2 wheels up to match the center's shine.

The stock center caps work fine, you just need to cut the spacers(clips?) off of the back side. Easy work.

Some people are buying chromed H2 wheels, FWIW you'll find a much, much better deal on the regular H2 wheels. I went the cheaper route, the chrome center caps look fine on them IMHO. Personally I prefer the duller finish, but the chrome looks amazing on certain colors.

Here's a pic of my un-chromed H2 wheels with the chrome center-caps from my stock PY0 aluminum rims.

Thanks all!

Hey Camstyn the truck looks Awesome. I have a 2004 and as far as installing them, did you end up doing the same as everybody else, raise the totsion bars and cut away the front airdam. I am purchasing a set from E-bay for $150. So I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.

Thanks as usual!! ED

Hi Ed, thanks for the compliment. Instead of raising the torsion bars and added the green keys instead, which gave me a bit more lift than cranking the torsion bars will provide. A little trimming of the air dam and inner fenders and voila!

What is the load rating on the Hummer wheels? I'm guessing it's stamped inside wheel somewhere?

I have a buddy looking for a set of chromed take offs for me.. I'm finding out they are a LOT more expensive that the non chromed. You can get the standards for under $200 a set, the chromed are anywhere from $700 and up.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif I've even considered having a standard set aftermarket chromed, which can be had for under $100 per rim if you look, I'm just not sure of the durability/quality.

Camstyn, could you post a closeup of your wheels? I think Hoot's are sweet as they match (shiny/shiny), but yours look good from afar - wondering how they look closer. Sorry if you posted this elsewhere, I don't recall seeing it if you did. Thanks!

Nice pics. Do you guys know the backspacing & width on the H2 wheels? From the pics, it looks like they don't stick out as much as aftermarket wheels, and therefore may be in my future (too). http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

hoot
10-29-2003, 12:17 PM
Backspacing is 5.5" width 8.5" 17" dia.

The H2 is about a 7400 gvw truck so I imagine that is what they were spec'd for.Edited by: hoot

VFRRider, you may not be aware, the chrome H2 wheels aren't chrome from the factory. They all come in as the regular aluminum finish. There is a place in California that chromes them for everybody. If you can get them chromed locally for cheaper that sounds like the way to go.

Jeli
10-29-2003, 01:59 PM
Cam's comment makes perfect sense now. The H2 dealer I got mine from said a company from Cali sends a truck once in a while to get their takeoffs. Makes you wonder if they remount the BFG's on chrome wheels?

I just went on eBay, and there's a place in Madison Heights that sells them "Buy it now" for $200, but i would think they'd let them go for $150 (starting price) if local. Here's the link - PM me if you contact them, and lemme know what they say.

U MI guys go to a local Hummer dealer and check.

Some dealers are selling tire and rim for $100.

My dealer (Columbus OH) sells rims $100 and tires $50

The rear GAWR on a H2 is 5000# so the rims should be over 2500# each rating.

Ray403Dmax
11-01-2003, 01:17 PM
$100 at the dealer is very good price, as the best I've seen on Ebay is about $500 for a four set of wheels/tires, and the bidding is just beginning.

Ray403Dmax

Anyone try to use the Hummer centers instead of the GM/GMC centers?

Dmax Tim
11-01-2003, 01:30 PM
The H2 caps are FLAT so the rear floating axles hit the cap.

Work ok on front.

I used the stock GMC caps the way they are, tighten them by HAND and they are fine (only get a couple of threads on the plastic caps)

I called the dealer in MI, JRE TIRES (800-791-8725) and he has H2 wheels w/ caps for $175/4 wheels ( this the Ebay dealer above).

Also checked on 8 lug HD aluminum wheels $150/ea but said the other store above Pontiac might have a better price on them (buys by the PALLET) call Steve at 248-682-5708 the store is at 2635 Orchard Lake Rd.

Dmax Tim

I'm running 285/70R-17 BFG AT, same OD as 285/75R-16 BFG AT

A little trimming on air dam and a couple of zip ties and they work good.

Your right. I saw a guy on Ebay that will chrome a set of H2's for $500, replaced. $650 is a better deal as you won't need to ship them two or three times at $75 a pop!

I just purchased a set of new take-offs on EBay for $135 plus $60 shipping for a total of $195. That is an awesome deal. I will be putting 285/70 R17 BFGoodrich A/T's on them. I will post pictures once it is complete. Might be a little while though.

From what I understand from VFRRider all I will have to do is put a few turns on my torsion bars and all should be well. We shall see...

Careful with the load rating. They're designed for a 8600 GVW truck. Ours are 9200. Not that far off but a word of caution foe those who like to take things to the limit.

11-11-2003, 12:26 PM
Hoot, I was kinda wondering about that. I haul around a 27' fiver at 8000lbs. with a pin weight of 1600lbs. and was kinda wondering about the load rating.

I think I have plenty of play room with weight though. Don't think I get close to the 9200. What do our trucks weigh? Anybody have any idea. Mine is extended cab so will be a tisch lighter than the crew cab guys.

Ray403Dmax

I have a loose set and I didn't see anything appearing to relate to weight specs. There was a dimension # and other serial #'s though. Maybe I missed it or it's coded.

VFRRider
11-11-2003, 07:22 PM
The following numbers are stamped on the inside of the spokes;

HT 11114

S5 C 9594459

C# 102902 2

XR 5 BV BU

USA

17x8.5Jx18.0 T-DOT

If anyone can decifer those, I have no Idea where/if the load rating is in there.

What tires fit the rim? I can only find 3, BFG, GoodYear and ProComp. These tires are 8, 8 & 6 ply rated....but nothing in 10ply or 3,500 lbs. A Big O, Nitto or Revo would be really nice.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif I wish they had made the Hummer rim 16 and not 17. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif You know things are crazy when an abundant 16" BFG AT cost 175.oo and the same tire in a rare 17" cost 135.oo. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

The BFG A/T T/A in stock size 245/75R16/E is rated at 3042 lbs @ 80psi, while the H2 BFG A/T T/A size 315/70R17/D is rated at 3195 lbs @ 50psi

Nitto does make a 295/70/R17 that will work on a 17", good for 8" to 9.5" wide rims. I think they would look a bit smallish tho. 17" rims are not a popular size, not many tire companies make much for them. I'd like to see 18" rims on the H2's stock, they would make more sense.

Got my H2 wheels installed tonight with BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 AT's. Didn't crank the torsion bars at all, trimmed the valance just a little bit and the fender liner at the drivers side front where the windshield washer tanks extends out into the fenderwell.

So far no rubbing, if I notice any rubbing I will throw a few turns on the torsion bars and I think I should be good to go. I am a happy camper now. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif My truck actually looks like a real truck. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Dmax Tim

I like my 285 BFG AT on my H2 wheels for summer.

I also switch to 265/75-16 studded buckshot mudders for winter.

They have 17" too,

http://www.maxxis.com/

I need a new set of winter tires and can't decide what to get, even thought about getting another set of H2 wheels for winter tires.

If I didn't keep getting new trucks I should lift it so the 2 extra set of tires for the wife's car could interchange.
