I am moving inot my first diesel. it is a 2005 crew witht the LLY. i am putting on a 6in lift and will be running 35's. i have already ordered the Edge Juice system w/attitude, AFE air intake, and the 4 magnaflow exhaust. my question is should i install the edge right away or do i need to break in motor first? is all of this going to be to hard on the tranny? has anybody done this? do i need a shift kit? i don't pull all the time, just a 32ft sled trailer when i do. i have heard not to pull on the higher horse settings, but when pulling a trailer it seems to make the most sense to me to do so. also i have always had gassers and found the tow/haul to be relatively useless, is it set up different on the diesel?

any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. i thank you in advance.

I have 6 inches on my LLY with 35's. You will get mixed opinions on the break in. I put mine on after my first oil change. No reason why I waited, well they didnt have it out yet, so I guess thats why I didnt put in on day 1. I know a dealership that puts them on their trucks from day one!! Yes it will be harder on the tranny. More unsprung weight to sling around. Dont pull on the higher settings. I tow on level 2. If you use the tow haul your fuel eco. will go to sh*t but you will have the benefit of the engine braking. Plus the tow haul will lock up your shifts nicely which is a bonus when towing. I dont use it(t/h) unless I have a lot of city towing.

thanks for the help. does the edge let you adjust for tire size or do i need to by a different programmer also?

Seems like you're into dropping some coin, so while it's fresh, you may consider at least a transgo shift kit. Will surely add more life to your alli, especially if juiced and towing.

attitude monitor has place for tire size so it shows the true speed. You need to get a handheld programmer to do your speedo. Or wait for some really good products that are on the way! (tts extreme)

they both are supposed to work well and fix your speedo and erase trouble codes.

granatelli makes a gran speedo but i dont think it works with the lly yet. I called and they said to wait a few weeks. who knows? superlift makes a truespeed calibrator but it too isnt available yet, but coming soon.

top tranny mod would be the suncoast III. You'll need it if you want to really add power.

Why not just install the juice at the dealer and set it on level 5 and smoke them leaving the lothttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif. Come on now, do you really need to ask if you should break the motor in a little or not. Is this the first powered anything you have ever bought? I don't think that is a very hard decision to make on your own.

okay, maybe i should rephrase the breakin question, 2K or 20k is more of what i am asking. with all the gas motors i have had, trucks, bikes, sleds, whatever i have always been told to break them in like you want them to perform. I admit i don't know Di^* about diesels but i am reading alot of stuff in here trying to figure it out a little bit. my brother in-law has a 02 d/a that has a 90 horse chip in it. he pulls construction/bobcats around all the time with no gauges and has had no problems in 80k. why is it necessary to pull in the edge in just level 1 or 2 assuming i have the gauge and can read egt.

what exactly is the suncoast III going to do for me?

thanks again

2k miles would be great for break in. A suncoast will save your tranny if you play in the upper level of the edge. Only thing with the suncoast is you must take your brand new tranny all apart. No thanks on that for me. I just play in level 2 or sometimes 3.

what if you installed the edge/attitude when the truck is stock and leave it on the STOCK setting.......then youd have a nice set of guages....

But then again you might just have the urge to bump it up to see what that little grey box does.......temptation is a bi*ch, but if have more self control then some people do why not right..........Edited by: NorCal 2500HD

Break in forst...Put a couple thousand on the motor before doing anything..Thans your best bet. I waited about 4 months....And unpatiently I might add. Only because they werent out yet. So, I had 8000 on the motor before installing the Edge. Also be aware that level 4 and 5 are a bit extreem and they REALLY reccomend tranny upgrades for this. They, "Edge" claim, that level 3 will not hurt the tranny. Whatever. Any hard driving will decrease an engine's life. Just besmart about it and dont punch it all the time. I generally leave mine in level one, 90 % of the time untill someone pisses me off then I might bump up to 3 or 4 and make them look stupid in a 7000 lb truck, then right back down to level 1 for normal driving.....And if you're gonna tow, (I'm learning this daily myself too" , use level 1 or 2...I wouldnt go more than 8000 lbs with level 2. And leave it in level 1 for hilly terrains....Enjoy.
