A guy I used to work with had a 2004 cummins (stock) that he had a boatload of problems with. Dodge didn't want to make it right. He traded it in for a powerstroke(stock). The PS or shall I say POS is in the shop for it's 3rd time with tranny problems. He took a major loss for it when he traded the cummins in. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems with Dodge stealers?

In my truck buying experience I dealt with two Dodge dealers, both Five Star dealers. I first went to the one local to me. They were nice there, but they were interested in selling me what they had not what I wanted. Specifically, they wanted to sell me a 2004 (not a 2004.5) 4x4 (I wanted 4x2) with white exterior (I wanted black) and a 3.73 open (I wanted limited slip). I told them what I wanted, they said they couldn't get something like that for about 8 weeks, insisted that this was the only truck I was going to find, buy buy buy. I thanked them and walked out of the dealership.
Then I had a friend of mine help me out on the matter by checking the inventory of a dealer local to him (Bankston Dodge of Irving, TX, another Five Star dealer). They had the exact truck I wanted in stock. I called up the dealership, explained my position. The man I talked to (a very polite gentleman who I would gladly do business with again) was very upfront and honest with me. Negociations took literally 2 minutes over the phone. I saved $3000 over what the dealership up here wanted and I got the exact truck I wanted. When I got down there, they were friendly (not exactly prompt, but that's forgivable), encouraging for me to read all the papers, and then wished me well. I drove away a happy customer and would gladly go back.
I've had the truck a week and a half and 1800 miles. I haven't had to deal with the service department yet, no problems. While sales up here isn't too happy with me for not buying their truck, I went by the parts department today to buy the 7-pin trailer wiring adapter, which they gave me a break on, and left getting an excellent deal on a bedliner. Very friendly and help guys there. So, assuming service treats me like parts does, I wouldn't expect problems.
Not exactly an answer to your question, but still my personal experience with the Dodge dealers so far.

What's a "boatload of problems"? Most I ever heard of was a chronic vibration around 70 mph. Never met anyone that had it but the web sites sometimes spoke of it.
Interested in what the specific problems were/are as opposed to more general 'John FN Kerry' generalities.

The doors leak air, the manual clutch is slipping, it won't pull a trailer over 50mph. That was the only vehicle his wife and he had. They wouldn't give him a loaner car while it was in the shop.

DMAXFAN,
Thanks for the info. The clutch is something always nebulous when warranty issues are involved. Wind noise must have been real bad to get rid of a new truck, or the owners are super fussy. Understandable when you spend so much money. Guess the trailer-pulling issue is because of the clutch.
Seems his selling/servicing dealer is a loser. A shame, but not all that unusual with any brands.
Thanks for the details. I'm glad the problems listed were not serious design defects epidemic to the brand.

Any stealer can be like this. It just got me to thinking when I read a post by Hoot that said the service dept. wasn't as nice as his old gm one, but he hasn't needed them yet.

I have owned two dodge cummins. The first bought new in 96. I had no problems what so ever until 200,000 miles when the trans decided it didnt want to shift until it was warm.
And the truck I have now is a 2001 cummins with a full compliment of Banks treatments. I have had no problems, and it has 56,000 miles.
I will buy another Dodge when I wear this one out, or get tired of it!

I have owned two Cummins/Dodge and two Ford/Powerstrokes all were great trucks, but I had way more problems with the Ford dealer than with Dodge,my dealer has treated me great and I have bought both my Dodge trucks from them and also a Dodge car.
My 2000 Dodge had one problem it kept blowing fuses in the fuse box under the hood, they replaced the box and gave me a new truck to drive while mine was being fixed + free oil changes, and I havent had any reason to take my new truck in except when I had the cab lights installed..

I had a Hemi Quad Cab 4x4 and got the worst mileage imaginable loaded or unloaded. I went to the dealer after having the truck about five months. They gave me the sales price of the truck as trade on Cummins HO. Said they would do that if I ordered the one I wanted too. As for the service dept., they are sending me coupons every three months for $35 oil changes and what not. I take the truck in, wait about 40 minutes and drive home. I am very satisfied. Also, any problem I have, they are very happy to give me a loaner and they hate not getting it fixed the first time.

Dealer gave me a loaner car contract. Anytime it goes in overnight I get a car even if I rent it. They pay.
