Tbone,
I just purchased a set of Toyo 265/75-16's for my D/A in
10 ply. I only have about 100 miles on them but so far they are
looking very positive. The A/T Open Country's do not seem to have
any road noise and they handle good. I like the steering feel
better than the factory FS steeltex's. Sidewall seems firmer as well. I
went with these over Bridgestone Dueller Revo's, which I really wanted,
for 3 reasons mainly:
1) A friends personal experience with these tires on a Dodge 3/4 ton
with a Cummins. He currently has 35K on the tires and they look
like they still have quite a bit of miles left on them. He also
states the tire does well on wet pavement which the Steeltex's do not..
2) Price. Saved mucho $$ over the Revo's.
3) Toyo's 500 mile test drive. If you decide you don't want the
tires before 500 miles or 45 days has occured you get a refund of the
full price including installation. With a deal like that, I had
to give them a shot. Gives me "chicken out" time to test the tire
some, although not much. and I can still pour my hard earned money into
the Revo's without losing anything but time if I so chose.

I am running the Toyo M&S rated tires on my Rickson 19.5" rims. Not a
bad tire, but somewhat loud. Also they get hooked up in grooves on the
freeway, but that is an attribute of tires with stiff sidewalls.

I have run Toyo OPen Country for years, in many different sizes, including the set Frank talks about above which were mine first. The 19.5 is the only size that is loud and had driveability problems, and the driveability probs are a creation of the 19.5 construction and not limited to Toyo. So far, Toyo (currently running 285X16) is the best tire I've had for a all around tire. They are only D rated, but aired to 75 or 80 lb will handle very heavy truck with no problems. I do not get great wear with any tire, but the Toyo was and is my best wearing tire. My tires take a beating off road and on rough, potholed Mexican and Guatemala roads at high speed. Toyo has held up best and is what is back on my truck after trying BFG, Goodyear heavy casing Wrangler, Nitto's (worst for wear - very noisy after 50%), Cooper, Kelly, Bridgestone, and yes, Michelin. Best tire I have ever had for wear and strength was Sumitomo - but can't get them in 285.

I've got the toyo open country M/T's and they have very little noise as to the bfg m/t and they were cheaper than th bfg's.

Ok, I've got the Nitto 285 TG's on the truck right now.... and they are not lasting as long as I would like. What I would like to know is ...... Why are the Toyo AT's any better than the Nitto TG's? Both tires come from the same manufacture, they both have the same load ratings, they both have the same beed block and ........heck, looks like the same tread pattern? So what's the difference? Someone has got to know?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
