Hey,

I received my Mopar under hood lamp and wiring in the mail today. Anyone care to tell me where it mounts under the hood and where it plugs into the main wiring harness? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Well, I'd go out and look under the hood of my truck right now to tell you except it's dark out and I don't have said light! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Just went out and took a look. My camera is in Maryland right now so I can't take a picture.

It's mounted on the passenger side, wire goes down and over behind the hood brace with a white clip. It wraps from the inside of the hood brace aroungd the back of it than down onto the cowling. It plugs into a connector at the wire harness directly behind and above the passenger side battery.

Thanks!

Cool, I found it. The plug had a cap in it that looked somewhat like the airbag sensor by the driver side headlight. I assumed it was another one. I guess it's really the under hood light connector. I plugged it in and it worked. Now I just need to figure out the cable routing around the hood brace. I might look at one while I'm at the dealer tomorrow.

Gotta get this stuff done under warranty:
Ball joints bad
Door seals torn
Door leaking water at the top
Rear pinion seal leaking
Missing frame rail plugs
Missing cowl plugs
Driver side exterior door handle loose

Seems like there was another issue, but it eludes me at the moment. I'll have to make sure to take my list with me tomorrow. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Thanks!

How many miles are on your truck? Seems somewhat surprising to have all those issues (especially the ball joints and pinion seal) go on a 2004, at least I would think.

Hey,

The cost of the light and wiring is $53.20 from the dealer. I paid 30.60 for it from Steve White Motors in Hickory, North Carolina. I had to pay shipping, but it was a good discount (as opposed to the local dealer) and there was no sales tax. Here are the part numbers:

56021441 Lamp
56051176AB Wiring

tdupuis -- I have 26k on my truck. They replaced the pinion seal today. The tire shop that rotated my tires said they thought my ball joints had a bit much slack in them. When the dealer checked them, they said they were within the specs of 0.02" of movement. I talked to the tech that worked on it and he said it was BARELY within that amount. I'm going to have him check them again just before the warranty is up. He said it was borderline, but if they get any worse, they would be replaced under warranty.

Just a tip -- Don't spray the new under hood lamp when you wash the truck. I purchased my first pack of replacement bulbs last night. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Hey Hoot,

I noticed that your light isn't illuminated? Did you install the light, or did it come with the truck? The reason I ask is I checked out one of these on a new truck at the dealer and the wire is routed along the inside of the hood support, whereas yours is on the outside.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks for the info, David. At 26k it's less disturbing, but I would
still think that those items should have lasted longer. I imagine it
also has to do with what kind of driving you do.
