Ok so if anyone has seen my other threads or garage,, I just got this truck 1 week ago today. this morning I stop by my local Quick lube,, for my first oil change, full service,,, leave drive bout 60 miles out on E-way to go take wife to lunch,,, 70MPH 2400RPM Rrrrrrrrrrrr,,fine,,, then,,,,UGHHHHHHHHH! <---(motor sounds) Shut her down,, pull off road,,, think to myself,,, Junk motor-:ThrowUp: gonna puke!- No---not the motor,,, :banghead: AHHHHHHHHHH CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I had a good deal,, :rippedhan drove great for about 425 miles,,,, on the side of road,, I looked underneath,,, No leaks,,, nothing out of the ordinary,,,

I had it towed to a GM dealer I used to work at,,, besides a $3000 reman,,, any one know the cost to rebuild one? or do crank and bearings??? cost of crank,,,,,, Reapir to my Sanity???:banghead:

You say you shut it down, -was it still running before you shut it off?

If so, -what noises was it making, -if any?

Well nothing,,, everything seemed normal,,, i really watched the oil gauge for the first 1/2 hr after I left,, we've all heard about them leaving plugs out and oil leaking out ect... I was cruiseing on Eway at 70MPH all of a sudden it sounded like a 6.5 rattleing like normal X4,,, I did try a restart after I shut it down,, and it was knocking pretty bad, thats about it. Oil pressure was 30 - 40 all morning,, temps 180- 190 factory gauges,, did paper clip while waiting for tow truck,,, no codes only flashing 12's.

Just got off phone will dealer,, Mech says " it starts, but it's bad,, think something in the bottom end let go,,, I'll make some calls,, for used,, and get rebuild prices,, and call ya back"

Go down and take a look at it, check the harmonic balancer for deterioration, see if they'll pull the pan so you can check the crank and block.

Bad lifter can make quite a knock, but check the lower end out.

Harmonic Balancer, flex plate, heck, even if one injector shuts off things will run like crap. Sounds bad and are bad are sometimes 2 different things.

It still starts and runs, and you popped it at 2400 RPM, I gotta think that nothing is totally broken, otherwise it would be trying to get to the outside.

Been wrong before though.

if something came loose in the bottom end 9/10 times they lock up....... so i guess there was oil in it.

Did they put Diesel spec oil in it? I sure would look at it from that angle too. And did I mention crank pulley/balancer? They sound real ugly when the rubber breaks.

Yeah the reciept says' deisel 15 40W. On the road side, the oil level was up,, and there were no leaks. I mean one second it was fine the next it was rattl'en,, ses light came on,,,and I shut her down,,,

I'm in Lake Odessa 6163748779 gimme a call Tag Sat afternoonish we can talk,, Thanx guys,,,, After looking at remans for $2500 and up,,, I'm thinkin that it starts,, So it can't be worse than a crank and bearings,, maybe rods,,, We'll bust her open on Monday and take a peak,, I will be sampleing the oil that comes out,,, it has maybe 50 miles on it,,, send it to sample place and see what they say. I can Do some serious work on the bottom end for $2500 bucks! So far my wife hasn't busted my balls to bad either!

SES hadda logged some DTC's - got access to a bi-di scanner?

Any kind of smoking when it happened, if so, what color?

If there was any smoke I didn' see it,,, I did look out the rear view as I was slowin and moving to the shoulder of the road,,, but seen No smoke.
The dealership it's at has a scanner,,,, and it was the check gages not the SES as first stated.

Man you're replacing your engine before you even know what's wrong with it. Either that or you know what's wrong with it and you're not telling us. Have you checked all the stuff that the guys have suggested?

Agree with Dave. Don't be such in a hurry. I believe you're upset, so should I, but try to fix what's the origin.

A buddy of mine had a piece of a broken glow plug wich felt in the combustion chamber : the engine was still running fine but with the same noise as if a rod was gone.
He drove the truck for 2 weeks before he decide to take out the head. Too late, the piston was destroyed.
Of course, absolutely not sure this is your trouble. Just my 2 cents

No, I'm really not,,, I just feel like a really swift kick in the nuts. Any time you buy a vehicle,, you take that unknown risk and this time i got bit. It happened at noon on friday,,, wife picked me up,,, I had truck towed,, and there she sits till monday when they can dig in to it. I always look to worst case,, at times like this,,, I do trust and have worked with these guys for a few years,, I know they will only do whats in my best intrest,, and we will only fix what it needs.
I just feel helpless,, and a few other things also,,, cause when you tell your wife your going to buy a new truck,, you hear all kinds of things,,,blah blah,, and then to have to say,, "oh the new truck i just bought,, yeah well the engine just took a dump,, and it might be 2 to 3 grand for repairs" You expect the worst,,, but she just said,, "Oh well, it ain't us havin cancer or the like. Can you fix it?" I said yeah,, she said oh good then,,, Its a nice truck it will be worth it!" Gotta love that woman!:)

I took it to Davis Pontiac,, in Charlotte,,, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have my truck back in time for Mowing season,, as it looks, here in mid michigan,, that might be a while!
