I told someone here...like a year ago...I would post the tint I got that is as close to the factory tint as it gets.

It's made by Solar Guard and is called HP Charcoal 13

I say why go close to stock. Go 2 layers of 5% all the way around and 51% down the front windshield. You will never have a hot vehicle again....

51% on the front windshield? Isn't that dangerous? Don't you drive at night?


I had 5% on my windows in 95 on my truck, I wouldn't go that dark again. Now it is illegal to go that dark here. I still go past legal, but not THAT far past.


My front windows are an exact match with my back and sides.

51% down the front windshield is almost clear. You can not see it unless you know what you are looking for. It just cuts the glare and keeps the heat out...

Ox, did you install this yourself or did you have a window tint shop do this? How hard is it to do yourself and can you tint over the rear window de-froster? thanks

It's not something that you will do a good job of with no experience. Mackin gave great advice, head down to the hood and you will get a good job for a fair price.

That looks like 35% to me... Not that dark and it matches the back pretty close.

It looks almost stock in the picture. I will have mine like my neighbors were you can't see the person inside looking from the back.

I wouldn't last a week with anything darker. As it is I am far beyond legal.


Doc, I am pretty darn sure it is 15%. I will double check. 35% is legal IIRC.


I've had a 95 Chev with 5% all the way around. Too dark. It was hard backing up at night... had to roll down the windows and use the mirrors. It gets cold here so that wore out fast. In my opinion it is too dangerous. Too hard to see out the side windows at night. Even during the day a second look was required.


I was at an accident a couple weeks ago where a truck with illegal tint crossed a road in front of a motorcycle. The motorcycle didn't have enough time to stop and and broad sided the truck. Killed the motorcycle driver. Truck driver said "I didn't even see him". Is it worth it?
