I ordered a set of wheels, tires and lug nuts from 4WheelParts Tuesday and was told all was in stock except the wheels. The lead time on the wheels was 3 months....ok, I was good with that. Then today, Friday I receive notice that a large purchase was made with my credit card. COOL, I thought my setup is on the way already.....gave them a call to check it out and they said I would be charged the ful amount and when they received the wheels, the would send me the whole works. WHOA BABY!!! I'm not gonna pay on merchandise I don't have for three months. In all the mailorder experience I have had, I have always been charged when the order is shipped, not before. Anyone else have an experience like this? Am I expecting too much? This was roughly a $2400 order...I can't believe they operate that way.

As I understand it, a company is not legally allowed to bill you until the product ships. I don't typically worry about being billed before, but it's usually for something that is shipped within a week (books or computer stuff). On a three-month lag, I would cancel the order immediately and go somewhere else.

That's exactly what I did. They are really just the middleman if they operate that way. They get to sit on my money while I wait for a third party to come through for them....Bovine Scatology if you ask me!!! Will not be working with 4Wheel Parts again.
I would cancel the order. They are running their business on the "float" by charging their customers at the time of order, while they probably pay their supplier after the product is shipped.
At this point, they have no incentive to ship your product to you. If they go belly up before they ship, you are in for a big time hassle, and maybe a loss.

If you authorize it, they can charge you whenever they feel like it... it's all in their terms of service or company policy.
One the other hand, 4wheelparts is one of the only companies in this field that has a policy like this... They'll never get any of my business, for this and other reasons.

Just for anyone that is interested...I got a much better deal on the same exact setup through Discount Tire. Only had to put $100 down. :thumb:
