I'm ordering a new 3500 diesel. Why does chevy not let you put a plow on a diesel 3500? I've heard anything from the tranny will overheat to the front end can't handle the weight? I don't want to void my warranty.

Often depends on the cab configeration. Most of the time it comes down to being over the GAWR for the front end.

 Don't get me started.....

The reason is that the GM trucks have a puny 4670 GVW with a crew cab and a 4800 with a plow prepped extended cab. That was 2007 Classic series. If you are getting an LMM, then your stuck with a regular cab only. Even the crew cab gasser won't have the plow package.

I know a lot of 1 tons w/8 ft plows no problems (dependign on the driver), warrenty is up to the dealer.

FARC IE how much extra weight cap is left when the truck is loaded, IE 5 people in a crew cab, not that anyone plows that way....GM is always on the short end for plow prep pkg's. As you can see by my sig, I don't much care ):h Never had a issue or warranty prob. (knock on wood)

Unfortunately, GM has chosen NOT to offer a front axle with capacity greater than 4800 lbs on the 3/4 and 1-ton trucks. For example, my truck (Extended Cab/SB) weighs 4000 lbs up front EMPTY. That doesn't leave much leeway for a plow.

Even though GM did offered and I got the VYU Snow Plow Prep Package on the 2006 extended cab Duramax, the only reason I got it is to avoid any hassles if I ever have to take it back for warranty work with a plow installed. The plow package did NOT give me anything useful other than the skid plate and the VYU RPO code on the glove box label. Even the single high capacity 145 amp alternator is not as good as dual 105 amp alternators, which are not even available with the plow package. I see no reason whatsoever why they couldn't offer dual 145 amp alternators for those who need the additional power for electrical accessories. Heck, the mounting pad for the second alternator is already on the engine.

Even the POS furds offer an optional 6000 lb capacity front axle and larger tires & wheels on their diesel trucks.

If you ask me, I would say that GM does NOT really want anyone installing a plow on these trucks. It's like they go out of their way to make difficult for anyone to do real work with these trucks.

which is beyond me, why buy a one ton truck and be able to slap a plow on it? these trucks can push as well as pull anything out there. and not to mention there really isnt a diesel pickup out there with good front ends. but its the weight issue i know. hopefully they will figure things out.

IMO a 9ft 6 is really pushing it on a 1 ton, but it depends on the driver as well.

Everybody around here runs 9ft's surprisingly enough GM's handle the weight the best. My 02 has 150K on it and the front end is original except for a pitman arm. The dealer generally warranties things that aren't directly related to abuse. I also only put my blade on to plow and take it off when I'm done.
