: Mark's W/A Intercooler and Airbox...
Markystang 04-12-2007, 05:04 PM OK guys...hopefully I've finally figured out how to post some pics here...I'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers, so bear with me...

chrisk1500 04-12-2007, 05:10 PM Nice work!...
Markystang 04-12-2007, 05:11 PM The intercooler core came off my brother's GMC Syclone when he swapped it for an ATA. We modified the inlet on it because it only had a 2" stock.
The upper intake is completely custom fabricated from the stock base on up.
The elbow is actually a piece of a rad hose we found at the local parts store.
I don't have the coolant hoses or heat exchangers in yet, but hopefully soon. I bought an auxilliary heater unit complete with fans I plan on using.
The airbox is pretty much sealed to the inner fender, and we enlarged the hole in the fender to the same size as the box. The lid is plexi-glass for visually inspecting the filter, and because it looks cool.
Filter is Amsoil.
You can also see my home made manual wastgate controller in some of the pics too.
Whadda ya guys think??
chrisk1500 04-12-2007, 05:37 PM Love that airbox....gotta get mine done here sometime soon as well....
Markystang 04-12-2007, 05:46 PM One other thing...
Notice I'm Canadian, but I did NOT paint everything flourescent orange and/or green.:DLOL!
Maybe I'm just not right in the head...

I think it's a Western thing Mark. Notice that me, you and teroma25 are paint free. Us Ontario boys have a little more taste. :)
Good job on the air box and IC. Wanna build one of those airboxes for me? :D

Chicago TDP 04-12-2007, 09:06 PM How good does it work, can you post some IAT temps at boost?
did you weld the intake?
flanman5 04-12-2007, 11:13 PM That looks awesome ,good work Mark
99burb 04-12-2007, 11:40 PM Looks really good so far!!!

CanadianRigger 04-13-2007, 02:04 AM Fine then, the next build will be plain then....... still kick ass! lol
flanman5 04-13-2007, 02:21 AM Dont be mad CR you tried it and it failed, the colors that is , I hope the next build does kick ass and looks good too.
CanadianRigger 04-13-2007, 02:58 AM Build it and they will come....
jackb 04-13-2007, 04:12 AM Could you post more details about how you made the airbox?
Dave12 04-13-2007, 08:20 AM Jelously on the eastern side?
Ouch My eyes....My eyes. Stop the burning! You need a welding helmet to look at that. :D
Dave
Turbine Doc 04-13-2007, 09:05 AM Could you post more details about how you made the airbox?
Jack if my eyes aren't ruined from looking at them colors, I think it is a stock late model round air box with PVC plumbing for tube he has under the hood
Cowracer 04-13-2007, 09:30 AM Jelously on the eastern side?
So CR.... How exactly do you keep hummingbirds from trying to mate with your engine?
:p:

nvmtnlion 04-13-2007, 10:40 AM LMAO! It is... colorful!
Markystang 04-13-2007, 12:33 PM How good does it work, can you post some IAT temps at boost?
did you weld the intake?
I can't really say how effective it is just yet, as (a): it's just the empty core right now. I don't have coolant, pump, or heat exchangers installed yet; and (b): I don't have an IAT guage or a scan tool to read it for me. Probably what I will do eventually though, is install a water temp guage on the IC coolant system somewhere. That will at least tell me how hot the IC's coolant is getting.
That said, I was sort of surprised that I lost no boost with the core installed. I thought that I'd maybe have to crank another psi or two out of it to compensate for inlet restriction, but it seems to flow plenty of air for my truck.
The upper intake is fully TIG welded. We cut the base from the stock upper and fabbed the rest fron aluminum sheet. The inlet pipe from the stock upper was used to increase the opening size of the IC from its stock 2" size.
chrisk1500 04-13-2007, 12:35 PM Let me know what you find for a pump....I am looking at either a pump from an F150 Lightning or a Meziere (sp?) from Summit....
Markystang 04-13-2007, 12:39 PM Could you post more details about how you made the airbox?
Pretty simple, really. It's just a sheet metal box, mounted from the bottom where the stock box would mount, with a 4" hole for the inlet pipe. Inlet pipe is a piece of 4" ABS plumbing pipe cut to fit. The lid is cut from plexiglass, and is held on with a few allen bolts. Foam tape was put between the box and the lid to seal better.
We bent the box with a regular break, but a box & pan would have made it really easy. Once bent up, we welded all the seams, then a quick shot of spray paint for looks.
Markystang 04-13-2007, 12:41 PM Wanna build one of those airboxes for me? :D
DaveI can probably do that. PM me if you're serious and we'll see if we can work something out.
Markystang 04-13-2007, 12:46 PM Let me know what you find for a pump....I am looking at either a pump from an F150 Lightning or a Meziere (sp?) from Summit....
I'm using the stock Syclone pump. The core, pump, hoses, overflow and 2 heat exchangers all came off my brothers Syclone when he went with an air-to-air IC.
I'm pretty sure I've seen 12v water pumps at Princess though. Otherwise, I can try to get a GM part # off this one for you.
chrisk1500 04-13-2007, 12:48 PM The pumps at PA are only good for 300 hours.....not long enough for me....
A GM part number would be great!
Markystang 04-13-2007, 01:13 PM SHURflo PN 2088-403-444
2.8 GPM, 4.0amp, 45psi.
Check RV places too. They might have the exact pump.
chrisk1500 04-13-2007, 01:17 PM Thanks!
chrisk1500 04-13-2007, 01:50 PM All I can find locally is the ShurFlo 2088 422 444
2.5 GPM, 7.0 Amp max, 40 psi,
That should work....right?
The price is right at $109 CDN....
Markystang 04-13-2007, 02:54 PM I can't see why it wouldn't work.
Give it a go!
chrisk1500 04-13-2007, 03:32 PM I just got back from PA....you were right...they have a ShurFlo that would do the trick....$119...I was thinking about their Pony Pumps....

Thanks for the info. I'm doing my injectors tomorrow, and the next things on my list are battery cables and an airbox.
