got the motor mainly put back together,,, like and idiot, i didn't anotate the specifics on the injection pump when i took it out... oviously line up the marks, but whate are the specifics. can you say duh!:banghead:

Line up the cam\crank marks to time the cam, install the IP drive-gear timing mark at 6o'clock, rotate crank 360deg so drive-gear mark is 180deg up at 12o'clock, install the driven-gear with the mark at 6o'clock, timing train is timed.

Injector pipes on the distributor are 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3, cw looking at the back of the IP - #1 is 3rd down from top left

Position IP FSO solenoid exactly vertical, tighten the nuts, prime, bleed, and see if it will start.

thanks! i took the IP of with all the lines still attached, so thats the easy part,, didn't know the steps to the IP install

If you look closely at the IP flange, you should be able to see where the nuts were at the original postion - put'em back there for closest timing.

I wish I had taken pics of this when I changed the pump on my truck a couple weeks ago... I thought about doing it but I was in a hurry so I didn't.

lets see if i can explain what i am thinking is corret.... here goes.... i have the timing marks aligned on the crank and the cam.... with as i am looking at it on the stand from the front. the first cylinder on the right at top dead center. compression (piston at the top) heads are off..... the gear is bolter on wich is aligned by the wood ruff key on the cam..... there is a alignment mark on that gear wich is at the 6 oclock pos. i need to turn the crank clockwise 360 degrees so that gears alignment mark is at the 12 oclock pos. then install the injection pump?

gmctd said it. first time the cam and crank. number one cylinder tdc crank timing gear at 12 oclock straight up. then turn the cam so the cam gear is pointing straight down 6 oclock install chain. after that then turn the crank until cam gear timing mark is straight up , should be one full turn of the crank. install pump gear timing mark straight down or six oclock so it is right up against the mark on the gear. then install pump with pin in proper position and follow old marks. i hope this helped.
