Anybody have experience with this product?

I've got just a few hundred miles on my change to Scaeffer's so I can't say much about it. The truck seems to run a little smoother and quieter but that may be because thats what I want of it. Have talked to users of Sc heaffer's products in gasser's and they swear by it.

I've got 5k on my Schaefer's right now, gonna have it analyized at 10k to see how well it holds up. Been towing our 5er nearly every weekend since I put this oil in, and the oil level is about 1/8" from full. Not burning much of this oil at all! It could take a bit to get the last 5k on this oil though...

Mark,

First time with Schaeffer's in the truck, I am pondering changing the filter to add one qt of fresh oil.

Drains were at 500, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, and at 20,000 the Schaeffer 15w-40 went in.

I wasn't planning on having it analyzed until 30k.

Nothing but Schaeffer's in my truck since my first oil change (2nd owner of truck/had 11k at purchase). My diffs are all Schaeffer's and my tranny and transfer case are scheduled next. Nothing but praise from me about Schaeffer's products.

Didn't do much towing, but my last OA numbers were as follows:

Copper-8

Iron-15

Chromium-0

Aluminum-4

Lead-8

Silicon-4

All the additives and properties were still well within normal ranges. Only put 6500 on this drain, though.

It is not uncommon to use a little oil the first drain with Schaeffers. you get an additive clash, detergency differences etc. Also it may take the second fill sometimes three ( depending on driving conditions, driver habits, or previous oil) for our additive package of penetro and micron moly to plate up. I generally recommned first drain same as previous maybe a taste longer. Second drain out 75%. 3rd double etc. Most everyone doubles drains with our oil and tripling is very common.

If you do oil analysis try to establish trends till you get comfortable with the wear numbers vs. the oci. There are some good analysis labs out there. We have an in house one for $10 and an ou of house one thru the web for $20.

I sent a sample in of my schaeffers, 13k miles, and hard miles, dynoing, etc.

its my 4 th change with schaeffers so its had time to do its thing.. I will post results. I would not be suprised to see them be very good

So, would the consensus be that I should just dump the oil and run another 5k drain before starting my 10k drain?? I have one free analysis sample, but don't want to waste it on a 5k drain. Thanks for your insight.

Your engine is relatively new and been well taken care of. I would go out to 7.5 this time. Then go 10kon the second drain. You could run the analysis either after the 1st or 2nd drain.
