I had a thought over the weekend. On my Harley [2001], I can buy a module that will enable me to open my garage door by turning on the high beams. I am guessing that you can set the dip switches on the module to coincide with your door opener and then when you power up the high beams it sends the signal to the opener. I'm thinking that this would be great for my truck since GMC doesn't see it in their heart to give us the HomeLink setup from factory. IIRC this sells for around 100.00 in Canuck Bucks.
Has anyone either tried this setup on their truck or wired one up on their bike? I haven't made it to the Harley stealer yet [these guys make the GM stealers look like a charity] to check the system out.
To entertain the electrical wizards on this forum, could this be done with a normal garage door opener? I'm thinking using a feed from the high beam relay to power the door opener. I can't see why the opener couldn't be mounted under the hood in the fuse panel with the power wire that is supposed to be hooked to the battery going to the high beam relay. Would a low amperage 12 volt signal cook a system that is designed to use a 9 volt battery?
Here's something for the masses to ponder....
