Hey guys, I am having trouble removing the front drive shaft on my 92 6.5 diesel. I have had it off in the past but can't seem to get it off now. It is like it is rusted together. Emagine that in Wisconsin.

I can get the one end of it off by the front diff. but the flat plate towards the transfer case isn't coming off. I took the four bolts out and sprayed it with liquid wrench and left it sit over night. Going back to try prying the two plates apart Today. Just looking for Tips? Thanks. The Doober

Since you have applied penetrating oil, I would use a 16 oz ballpeen hammer
and tap the driveshaft end lightly as you rotate the shaft by hand.
It worked on my 99 Suburban. And New York loves to apply the salt. My Burb
is finally looking black again.

Just give it a few good wacks , it is just stuck in the counterbore, only an 1/8" deep , If the driveshaft side of the yoke is closed than w40 can't get to it .

Hey Guys thanks for the tips. I will go and try pounding on it again. It gets frustrating when you know the think should just come apart. I was beating on the yokes quiet hard to try to get the two plates to pop apart. I had problems with it the last time I took it off but I don't recall it being stuck on that tight before. I wonder if I could use a screw driver for a wedge to pry the two apart?

I am getting ready to pull the engine out and get stuck already with something that seems so easy. Makes me wonder what the heck other problems I am going to run up against. Any one else with a trick or two before I go back to the shop on how else they got their front drive shaft off? Thanks again guys. The Doober

Yea you can use the screwdriver as long as you file down the marring you created. clean of the collar and the bolts and use some anti seizure compound on everything so it comes apart easyer next time around.

Well I will take off the front of the driveshaft and see if the slip joint is seized. Anything could be possible. Thanks guys. I will try this tomorrow. Thanks again. The Doober

The slipjoint crossed my mind to, but I understood that the front yoke was loosened already.

Bison, yea I guess I was sorta vague on the front part of the drive shaft. I loosed the bolts on the front u-joints but didn't actually pull the drive shaft off the front. I will try pulling it off the front Tomorrow. What the heck do I have to do if it is rusted up. I have been searching alot and thought I seen where someone had to cut the front drive shaft off because it was frozen up? That's alittle harsh isn't it. Must be a way to loosen it up without wrecking it? Thanks. The Doober

Take a long prybar and stick it between the front u-joint and the yoke and pry it back. That joint should then come loose and you should be able to get the back loose. Like someone else said once you get it off smeer anti-seeze on it.

If the slip joint is locked up don't pry it out. You can losen the front diff easy enough to just get enough room to slide it out. You could cut it but you will need a core when you replace it.
It was still easy to do and you save the shaft.
