: Fabtech vs. ProComp
Sledneck 76 04-10-2007, 09:59 PM Can anyone tell me which is the better lift to go with for a 2006 Duramax 4x4 Crew Cab? I am thinking about a 6" Fabtech or ProComp. Most of my driving will be highway with some mild offroading on occasion. I also plan on putting a set of 35" tires on possibly on an 18" rim during the summer and run my stock 16" alluminum rims with 285/75/16 tires in the winter.
Any feedback or opinions will be appreciated.
Use the search function, there is alot of info about both on this site.
codythom 04-11-2007, 09:14 AM I say go with pro comp. It doesn't widen the track width, and there there are a lot of people on this site that have the pro comp lift that have had zero issues with it.
Gray Gmax 04-11-2007, 09:22 AM Fabtech -1 vote
lftddmax 04-12-2007, 12:33 AM Pro comp
fool32696 04-12-2007, 12:45 AM Pro Comp!!! I love mine
jdugie123 04-12-2007, 12:56 AM RCD but if not that then Pro Comp
Tow Master 04-12-2007, 02:10 AM I put a Fab-Tech on my last truck and it was awesome! There proffesionally built and have a great install and nothing on them is cheap.
Fab-Tech
baxterboy 04-12-2007, 02:13 AM Pro Comp on both my 2005s. No problems. I would upgrade to the MX6 shocks or better.

In case someone misunderstood. that is a minus 1 vote. Never had a part failure either and it rides nice with the bilstiens. My cv angles are stock.
However the turning issues I have, is a geometry thing. which they never saw before, and that was the end of my customer service.:(
freyguy 04-12-2007, 08:55 AM Can you run factory wheels on the fabtech? I didn't think you could.
My vote is for ProComp. I'm pretty rough on mine offroading, and its holding up great. I just reccomend to do Realifts at the same time because the dropped tbar crossmember is a pain when offroading.
jiggs420 04-12-2007, 05:02 PM freyguy, did you install your lift of did you have it installed somewhere? in in wilmington DE and im looking for a good place to have a lift installed.
moore87 04-12-2007, 06:49 PM Pro-comp. Just look at freyguys truck. Enough said

stockers work, one of the reasons the tire stick out so much.
freyguy 04-13-2007, 08:47 AM Thanks Moore87!!
Gray Gmax - Gotcha, I wasn't sure if it was like some of the other spindle lifts.
Jiggs - Myself and a buddy did it in my garage. It took a good while to do it, but it wasn't terrible. I didn't really trust any of the local shops with it. Rhino Linings on Old Baltimore Pike in Newark do them, but I think they are pretty high priced. I also believe there is a shop around Baltimore that is pretty well liked. I'm not sure the name though. Feel free to give me a hollar with any questions. And if you decide to try it yourself and need a hand, let me know.
Sledneck 76 04-13-2007, 09:19 AM Hey Freyguy,
When you say "I just reccomend to do Realifts at the same time because the dropped tbar crossmember is a pain when offroading", what exactly do you mean?
freyguy 04-13-2007, 11:37 AM The ProComp lift (along with most others) will have you relocate your torsion bars 6" lower so they are level with the lower control arms. This means you have to relocate the torsion bar crossmember down also. It makes it hang down past the frame a good bit, right in the middle of your truck. It's a pain when offroading because it's the first thing to hit a rock, or dig into the ground when your going over the crest of a hill.
Realift (http://realiftsusp.com/) makes these keys so that you don't have to lower your torsion bar crossmember and bars. You may have to relocate the crossmember back a few inches, but it will stay up in the frame. Much better if you offroad at all, but if you don't plan on offroading, you shouldn't need them. When I did my lift I threw out the factory t-bar crossmember mounts, and I'm having a hard time finding some so that I can put Realifts on there.
Nice product, I wish I would have known about them before I did my lift. Do they work with a stock crossmember and a 6" drop diff kit?
FastCR 04-13-2007, 02:10 PM procomp. but make sure you find a good shop, someone that has done good work for you or someone you know before. Would have saved me a lot down the road...
freyguy 04-13-2007, 02:31 PM Berk - I think if anything on an HD you may need to move the crossmember back a few inches. I've also heard some of the 1500's need to drop the tranny crossmember down an inch, but I don't believe thats the case with the HD's.
