I just installed my fuel pressure gauge today, it is an Auto-meter Ultralite, 0-15, inside with isolator. I hooked it up and ran the hose to the test port on top of the fuel filter canister, See Pic at bottom. I used right one. it is a different truck. What are the 2 test ports for, why are there 2? I got it all hooked up, and It only reads a max of 4PSI! It took us about 20 minutes to get the truck to run after the canister drained from removing the plug! I am getting hardly any fuel pressure, and it doesnt move much at all when I give it fuel, and it stays at 4psi when i shut it off. Is the lift pump bad? Please help! I dont want to drive it at this bad. Please help, Im lost with my new CTD.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/43C_untitled.JPG

well, if it took you 20 min to prime the canister after opening it up, and if your reading 4 psi lift pump pressure, safe bet the lift pump is toast. is the isolator blead properly? if there is air in the line after the isolator, then the pressure will read low...
but it sounds like it is time to look for a new lift pump, or alternative...
FASS & AirDog are external liftpump&filter setup [near identical] or there are other aftermarket lift pumps avalable from dieseldynamics and wildcatdiesel and some others too...

i do know that autometer gauge will stay where it last was when power is shut off... it doesn't go to zero... mine always resets and runs a full sweep when IGN 1 comes on..

Thanks guys! I installed a new lift pump monday night, now the gauge flies right up to 15PSI when I turn the key on, it holds 14 and above idling, and drops to a minimun of 9 at WOT. I feel a lot better now, 3 PSI would probably toast the VP44 in a hurry! It was the orininal lift pump on 123,000 miles, they did not put a new pump on when they put a new engine in at 105000, but im happy now!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Good thing you decided to put a gauge on it.
