I noticed a couple weeks ago that my volt gauge showed 19volts. I imediately put a volt gauge on it and found it was really putting out 13.8 volt. Over the course of the last couple weeks, its gone from 9 volts to pegged past the red at like 24 volts. Yet still everything its fine when check with a digital volt meter.

Some days though, it works fine.

Anyway, do i have to get a new cluster or can just the volt gauge be replaced? and if i do have to get a new cluster, i assume the dealer will have to program the millage and hour meter?

Any other suggestions? Almost seems like a lose connection, but in a system like all new cars have, seems unlikely, and even more unlikely to find.

Sounds like the stepper motor (that turns the gauge needle) has gone bad. Stepper motor failure is very common and can affect any of the gauges. The dealer will tell you the only solution is to replace the whole cluster ($350??).

Do a general search for 'stepper motor' and you will find lots of info including where to buy a new stepper($15), how to install, where to send your cluster for repair if you cant do it yourself, etc. Good luck.
