Went up to my sisters place in rochester yesterday....bout 40miles. Truck ran fine oil pressure at the sweet spot of 60psi....well i went to leave this morning and i see a couple small oil spots(bit smaller then golf ball)...i go and look its motor oil...hmm i think, the spots corresponded with where i had parked so i look where it was currently sitting, and there was a spot, it was bit bigger, but im attributing that to it running down..Where it sat was as far up the driveway as you could be, which(being in a development) made it the steepest as well...prolly a 10-15% incline....
I slide undnerneath and the spot is at the end of the filter, and there was a oily film up at the housing like it had been blowing out or something...
I started it up and it wasnt leakin any place so i took off for home.Truck ran fine, normal pressure. When i got back, i thought to check the tightness of the filter and tightened it maybe a 1/16- 1/8 turn by hand....didnt really see where it had leaked at all on the way home...I placed an old truck flap under it, to see if it leaks anymore...Its sitting on level groud now....In a bit im going to go and clean the film on the housing....I changed the oil about 600 miles ago, or last weekend in Aug.Filled it to the top of the stick....I remember the filter going on w/out a hitch, so im sure its not cross threaded....
Ive thought about taking the filter off and checkin it, but i dont have a spare one, or any oil, so im a leery...I plan on checkin the oil after it sets for a bit
Has anyone had problems w/a leaky filter...Was it the rubber ring? or not seated ??

I wiped a bit of it off, right above that plug/screw...http://dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/1C7_000_03651.jpg

While i was under lookin around i found thishttp://dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/978_000_03611.jpg

Still plenty of oil on the stick.... I wonder if the film isnt from when i changed the oil...and since ive been home and tighten the filter that little bit it hasnt dripped yet....

People have talked about a crank case vent tube. I was doing my transmission oil, and noticed at my oil filter I had some little drips. Nothing on the ground. On my filter. Some place does my oil changes. Presumed it was just some dripping left over when putting new filter on.

Your oil pan bolts may have loosened off a bit. People have said about 20 PSI for torque. CHECK THIS VALUE FIRST. If ya borke one.....

Is oil pan pic of oil that has run down, from above? Possibly?

ill have to check the vent tube thingie....with the angle i was on at her place its very possible that it was just running out....i didnt even think about that....Would explain why sitting in my driveway here at home it hasnt dripped yet....As for the oil pan its wet all the way around as far as i can tell....Thanks for the tip Max...-Adam

I had a main bearing bolt leak on the right side of the motor. Sealed and retorqued at the stealer and been fine since. Look higher than the rim of the pan to see if there is something coming down and getting caught on the pan rim.

My ventpipe always has some amount of oil around it, so I consider that normal.

I had both oil pan seals (o-rings?) replaced under warranty about 8 months ago on my 02.

When I called the dealer and told them that I had an oil leak that I wanted them to check - their response "Bring it on in - probably just didn't get the filter on tight. We've never had a Duramax leak on us."

That was the kiss of death - they gave me a new Envoy for a week - and fixed it for me under warranty.

Well i looked around and found the vent tube...its on the passenger side, and in the front of the pan so, being parked the way it was the oil would have gone towards the back away from the vent right??? And being on the passenger side, it was not near the filter...I couldnt find any vents near the filter ...So im stumped as what the deal is...It still hasnt leaked since ive been back homehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif...
I cant believe that the little bit i tighten the filter, and the angle would cause it, would it?

Maybe under pressure, and filter being slightly loose?

i dunno, i moved it 3x;s and everytime it only ran for maybe 30 secs, so idont think i built alot of pressue?...but i guess that along w/the progressively higher incline everytime i moved it, could have caused it...of course i didnt pay attention to if it was actually dripping when i loooked, or just for a few secs after i shut it off...
