what amsoil atf should be used in the 6sp? Their application guide says that only the univeral atf is speced for it not the torque-drive which I thought was special for the allison.

Can anyone clear this up?

Thanks
Ted

You want the torque drive. It works great. The non-torque drive is the wrong type for the Allison.

...or Dextron VI, that's what the factory puts in it.

brand aside, it appears that the 6sp requires dextron VI rated fluid and the 5sp requires dextron III rated fluid. Both transynd and torque-drive are not dextron VI rated.

So do you go with the allison ratings and forget about the dextron stuff or is what chevy says more important.

I am a resent convert to both GM and automatic trannies. I have yet to get a handle on who to believe on the corp. level.

I vote for TranSynd or Amsoil.

Doubt if it's the exact same thing but it sure isn't half the price.

TOTHEMAX: I just priced the Transynd in Msla at Interstate Power Systems @ 35.00 per gallon, which I thought was high from reading here. Will check into the Amsoil locally.

Allison recommends Transynd on their web site. Any fluid with the TES 295 Allison logo can be used. Got mine in Orlando on the John Young Pkwy at a Ford/Allison dealer for $178 for five gallons. Changed the fluid using Hoots method and noticed a difference immediately.

1 amsoil developed the torque drive by using infrared analysis and copying the results with minor additive changes and they back it with there warranty 2 the amsoil atf was and is used in allisons but the torque drive is less expensive as it only has to meet the one spec instead of being universal.

What is the Hoots method? Ihave Amsoil in the engine and rear diff. I have been thinking of doing the trany but I don't wont to just put the 7 qt. in after emptying the pan.
