I have a Prestige installed. Alarms are reasonalble, the modules to work with chevy electrical "properly" are what cost the real money. Installed was $400 with the usual alarm functions. That was a buddy price and I was told $550 is regular.

I bought mine along with a module to beat the passlock system for around $200 total. Install would have been another $400 or more plus the markup on the parts. I realize that everyone cannot install there own, but after seeing how a "professional" installed the one on my wife's truck ($450 total back in 99), I will never let one of those hackers near my vehicles. Cartoys said a reasonable price was ~$1000 to install all the features.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Ask questions about the installer's practices. Do they solder their conections? Do they diode all connections to the system? Do they heat shrink where posible or just us the .99 electrical tape that falls off the first time it is over 80 degrees? The install on my wife's truck used cheap tape and they just wrapped the wires together with no diodes.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif No solder, no wire nuts, not crimp connects, nothing. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif The thing started acting flaking and I went into it to find out what was up. Imagine my surprise when I found out the reason it never cooled off in the summer was they didn't even hook up the power for the AC control line. It took me 30 minutes and cost me a $4 relay. Oops, sorry about getting on my box. The moral is ask lots of questions and see if you can watch them work. It's your vehicle and they can screw a bunch up.

I agree with chuntag95.

I was in the audio and security industry until '95. That was back when 12v was 12v and not at what milliamp signal. I was astounded to hear how GM and others, in an attempt to make lighter vehicles, send a single wire to 10 or 15 components throughout the vehicle. The milliamp rating is what determines what component reacts to the signal. If it was not intended for the door locks, it continues on till it finds the windows on that same wire. I understand they trimmed over 100 pounds of copper by doing this.

Very interesting and very intimidating and I used to install this stuff! I was more than happy to tum my Truck over to s a certified installer. Just too many damn computers on board now. Even the door locks on the crew cab communicate via RF. Very cool!

I just installed the Astro Flex and got it from Max Power. Easy to install and doing it myself was about $230.

It is fairly easy to install but it is not for the electrically challenged. If you don't know how to run a volt meter, and don't understand basic electrical it's not for you.
