: MPI LBZ Twins
IdahoRob 04-08-2007, 01:21 PM The new truck is on the road with a new twin set-up and a built tranny.
Thanks to Nathan for the late nights and trying to meet a dead line for me to race. We almost made it.
This new twin set-up feels very nice. Quick spool-up with the LBZ charger and plenty of big air with the large bottom charger.
With the extra fuel this LBZ pump supplies, this truck should run better than the last. Gets out of shape quickly with just a tow tune.:D
Thanks to JoshH for helping all day install the trans, co-pilot, and other goodies.
Thanks to MikeL. for the awesome support day and night. This tranny feels very nice, quick, and smooth.
Let the LBZ piston testing begin
subman631 04-08-2007, 01:27 PM :nopics: Come on Rob post some damn pictures.:D
IdahoRob 04-08-2007, 01:44 PM :nopics: Come on Rob post some damn pictures.:D
I'll get some pics up tonight. The camera is being filled up with easter baskets and eggs today.
JoshH 04-08-2007, 02:48 PM Glad I could help Rob. That truck rips. I can't wait to see it at the track.
Kws808 04-08-2007, 03:52 PM Congrats Rob im glad to hear the new twins are on the road.:thumb: :rockit: :driver:
tlee05 04-08-2007, 08:02 PM Congrats on the truck Rob! What did you end up doing with the engine intake?
hdd-max 04-08-2007, 09:51 PM Congrats!! I want twins ASAP!! Any clue when he will be selling kits for LBZ?
moss022 04-08-2007, 10:07 PM can wait to hear about it! hopefully i can be around bob when you let him know how fast you went again!
IdahoRob 04-08-2007, 10:29 PM Here are a couple pictures. Nathan had his work cut out for him because GM made the LBZ different in many small ways, .100 here and .100 there starts making for long days. He installed all the factory stuff including grid heater.
IdahoRob 04-08-2007, 10:35 PM Congrats!! I want twins ASAP!! Any clue when he will be selling kits for LBZ?
As soon as he recieves the check:D
05Smoker 04-08-2007, 10:41 PM Looks good Rob.
What are you running for a CP3 - stock, modded single or dual?
lbz492 04-08-2007, 10:44 PM it really looks good. did you put the same turbo on as was on the lly or did you go bigger or smaller?
redws6rocket 04-08-2007, 11:00 PM that set up looks sick, congrats and good luck. i will be waiting for some track times!!!!
IdahoRob 04-08-2007, 11:10 PM Looks good Rob.
What are you running for a CP3 - stock, modded single or dual?
Still testing the single stock LBZ pump. Right now seems very stout compared to the LLY. Should be good for a few tenths over the last pump. Nathan will mod the pump if needed. I think this setup with a single pump will get close to roll bar times at a sea level track.
it really looks good. did you put the same turbo on as was on the lly or did you go bigger or smaller?
This is a bigger charger than my last set-up
STROKE THIS DMAX 04-08-2007, 11:14 PM Looks real nice!!!
Duratys 04-09-2007, 12:30 AM Looks good Rob  I think I need a ride in this one:)

Idaho CTD 04-09-2007, 02:42 AM Congrats!! I want twins ASAP!! Any clue when he will be selling kits for LBZ?
I'll have to jig the new intercooler pipe and get a few more parts made before it is ready for release. It'll probably be done around the end of the month.
Nathan
Got Juice? 04-09-2007, 04:17 AM Nathan, I just have to say, that your work is nothing short of amazing!
That is incredible! Now to decide, do i go to DDP or make a trip to Boisie?
Decisions, Decisions....
Got Juice? 04-09-2007, 04:18 AM PS what is with the exhaust housing colour on the bottom charger? Has it been coated? It sure looks dark compared to most housings.
McRat 04-09-2007, 05:40 AM Looks good!! :ro)
Idaho CTD 04-09-2007, 11:46 AM PS what is with the exhaust housing colour on the bottom charger? Has it been coated? It sure looks dark compared to most housings.
It's the new high temp coating I use. It's suppose to be rated to 2500*.
BigStu128 04-09-2007, 01:17 PM Looks good.
Can't wait to see what it does on the rollers.
RickDLance 04-09-2007, 01:25 PM I want to Welcome Idaho CTD to our Vendor family!! Thanks for Stepping up to help!:thumb:

subman631 04-09-2007, 02:11 PM You know me, I like the cheap route, thanks for it Ken.
Wasn't that cheap as I remember, cost you pulling two trannys and installing one.  Also I got a new stock TC out of the deal IIRC.:D You gonna get some gauges installed pretty soon? Nice to know what boost and drive pressure is.
Got Juice? 04-09-2007, 02:17 PM Looks great Rob and Nathan, nice to know the 5" exhaust off my old 02 CC is on the new truck.:D
an LB7 Part? that's worth 45 HP right there!:p:
Here are a couple pictures. Nathan had his work cut out for him because GM made the LBZ different in many small ways, .100 here and .100 there starts making for long days. He installed all the factory stuff including grid heater.
Copy cat!
OneTALLGMC96 04-09-2007, 09:43 PM looks familiar...;)
fredw 04-09-2007, 11:33 PM looks good rob and nathan... might half to try the same if my pistons hold up
GMC2500HD 04-09-2007, 11:41 PM That setup looks awesome.. That looks better than the other one that I saw in person. Looks like alot of work went into that and it was a clean install. Congrats.
coldLBZ 04-10-2007, 12:14 AM Looks sooo good, congrats on getting the truck together. Keep us posted with all of the info you can, I've been waiting for this for a while. Thanks.
Diesel Tech 04-10-2007, 12:14 AM Looks good, glad to see that you can let Nathan get back to real work now.:)
IdahoRob 04-10-2007, 12:39 AM Copy cat!
I would've ordered all black, but I take what I can get.
Scrufdog 04-10-2007, 12:59 AM wow.
bad04dmax 04-10-2007, 07:39 AM Bada$$!!!!!!!!!! i want it.
Coghlin 04-10-2007, 04:47 PM What would be a ballpark cost for doing something like that? That looks very nice. Would twins decrease fuel mileage a little?
IdahoRob 04-10-2007, 04:57 PM What would be a ballpark cost for doing something like that? That looks very nice. Would twins decrease fuel mileage a little?
Actually the fuel mileage goes up because of a more complete burn. On my last truck, I could get over 20mpg at 75mph with the A/c on in 100 degree temps with a race tune loaded. Problem is triing to keep your foot out of it:D
DURAtotheMAX 04-10-2007, 05:05 PM I could get over 20mph
Dang Rob, with twins your truck will go over 20 mph? Where do I sign up? :D :joke:
IdahoRob 04-10-2007, 05:37 PM Thanks smart ***:D
Dieselson 04-10-2007, 07:37 PM LOL. Nice Rob, that will be out at vegas right? I want a 20 mph truck :D
IdahoRob 04-10-2007, 07:47 PM LOL. Nice Rob, that will be out at vegas right? I want a 20 mph truck :D
Want to race?:D I hope to be in Vegas. Spring is a busy time, but I'm trying my best.
ZR1160 04-10-2007, 07:51 PM The MPI twins have been the best invention since the wheel and sliced bread. There is nothing humanly possible I can do to get my EGT to 1200 degrees even with bigger sticks I run.
Funny story, My father was getting a DVD player install in his 07 burban and because it wasn't done in time,(he lives about a hour away) I said to take my truck home and I'd switch with him in the morning. Well I tell ya the next morning the look on his face was priceless, mine you he grew up driving a 66' 427cid Vette Stingray,( which he still owns, and in the day cost more than a Caddy), was pure shock:eek: , the first words were WTF is done to that!(In a almost 2 years I've only told a few people that my truck is not stock) It works!, he said " I pulled out to pass a tractor trailer, and it scared the sh*t out of me, next this the needle is buried!" ( my speedo goes to 200kph, but it tops out at 192kpH, so it wasn't quite buried..lol) I said, well it will give your vette a run for the money:D , he just shook his head( I guess cause he's close to retirement, otherwise I think he want to race:D) .
coldLBZ 04-11-2007, 11:40 PM IdahoRob, do you have head studs on the LBZ? Is the motor stock internally? Please keep us posted with any info you feel comfortable sharing, thanks in advance.
IdahoRob, do you have head studs on the LBZ? Is the motor stock internally? Please keep us posted with any info you feel comfortable sharing, thanks in advance.
As frugal as Rob is.......positive there is nothing other than twin turbos, a lift pump, and some twins on that truck.:D
sp33d 04-12-2007, 12:27 AM They look great Nathan and Rob!!
IdahoRob 04-12-2007, 09:56 AM IdahoRob, do you have head studs on the LBZ? Is the motor stock internally? Please keep us posted with any info you feel comfortable sharing, thanks in advance.
Stock internals and stock studs. I ran this same combo on my LLY for two years of hard abuse without one problem. I kept the boost around 50 psi.
Bobo, I have gauges too(home made gauge pod though:p: )
coldLBZ 04-12-2007, 02:52 PM Thanks guys.
JoshH 04-12-2007, 06:39 PM Bobo, I have gauges too(home made gauge pod though:p: )If you ended up doing it how you told me you were going to, I wouldn't exactly call it a "pod". I think it would be more a holder.

You mean this gauge is actually going into a mount?:D
I'm going to miss looking at your gauge hanging by the wires/tubing:eek:

Sounds like a great towing set up. Is that EGT at the exhaust manifold? Are you using the stock lly charger as the smaller? Congrats on the truck Rob, have you built the roll cage yet? :D

Probe is in the manifold, top charger is stock LLY VVT:)
Diesel Power 04-15-2007, 04:49 AM That looks really nice rob..i can't wait to see it run.
Yukonjack 05-11-2007, 12:51 PM Anything new on this?
Idaho CTD 05-11-2007, 01:16 PM Rob is going to the track today and this weekend. I dont know that we will see any fast times because it's a NHRA Div. 6 opening weekend and that means bracket racing. Plus he had a few tranny related issues come up in the last week. He thinks he has it whipped but he wont know until he runs it on the track.
As far as the twins go everything is good. The week after next I am going to fine tune the intake plumbing and then I will be ready to roll with them. So provided the machine shop catches up then I'll be making LBZ kits before the end of the month.
Nathan
Got Juice? 05-11-2007, 07:09 PM Congrats Rob, Your latest run is smokin!
Already to trump your LLY performance and less time in development.
Now that is impressive!

Midnight Duramax 05-24-2007, 09:54 PM Does anyone make a twin turbo kit for the 06 LBZ?
subman631 05-24-2007, 10:01 PM Does anyone make a twin turbo kit for the 06 LBZ?
Yes the very guy this thread is talking about. Nathan Wright in Boise Idaho, he is a vendor on this site and his compay is MPI and his number is 208-703-3527
coldLBZ 07-06-2007, 03:36 AM Nathan, how are the kits coming along? Could you PM me a ballpark price? EFI Live is required with this setup right? Thanks in advance.
ZR1160 07-06-2007, 06:05 AM Nathan, how are the kits coming along? Could you PM me a ballpark price? EFI Live is required with this setup right? Thanks in advance.
You need EFI to controll the VVT top Turbo.
Idaho CTD 07-06-2007, 03:52 PM It's funny you ask today of all days :). I'm working on the finishing touches of the LBZ stuff right now (well actually I'm typing right now but you get my drift). I rerouted Rob's intercooler pipe and then I have to make a copy to build a jig and I'm good to go.
Idaho CTD 07-06-2007, 03:57 PM Sorry I forgot to add that the kit will work without EFI Live but for optimal performance you need it. Peak egt reduction is around 400 degrees without EFI Live and between 5 and 600 with it.
