What causes high EGT's? Is it unburned gas in the exhaust? How do you keep EGT's down? I live on top of a gradual hill and every night I watch my egt's climb to 1100. I"m not really giving it much fuel and when I let off the pedal I feel like I'm crawling up the hill. Sometimes I'll drop it down a gear or two but it's starting to bug me. She's got 179K on her. Would a chip help here? I know an intercooler would do some good but not much room for it. Could it be something easy to fix?

Not enough boost will cause high EGT's and unburned fuel. Is your turbo system in good shape. What boost are you seeing on this climb?

What's the truck background info - Inj Pump, injectors, scanned for timing?
At 180kmi those should have been replaced long ago, and time again for replacement, along with timing chainset.
Flatlanders don't notice the gradual deterioration in driveability, but a long hill is a good proving ground, even for a fresh engine.
Bad fuel, dirty air filter, low boost - Boost pressure and EGT and ECT should be posted together for diagnostics - usually result in excessive black smoke.
Black smoke should be posted for diagnostics.
Go thru the Diagnostics Checklist in FAQ's for more info, post results here for diagnosis.
